One trick ahead of disaster - Friendless Night - March 17, 2021

March 16th, 1891 — South Bartonburg; Early Morning
There were times when Endy really questioned what he did for a living. For the most part, he actually enjoyed it and it was easy money. Usually. But sometimes clients made mistakes such as the one the night before. The man had side apparated Endy into his Bartonburg home for the night. Which was a little disappointing, Endy had been expecting Wellingtonshire. But Bartonburg was fine, too.

The night had gone as it typically did and the man was kind enough to let Endy sleep over. That was until he was woken when the sun was barely out of the sky. Apparently, the lady of the house had returned earlier than expected from some sort of family visit. Endy didn't pay attention to those details as the man paced and panicked. The man and wife slept in separate rooms but the man didn't want to chance her coming in upon a naked redheaded boy in her husbands bed. So, Endy had been unceremoniously ushered out - towards the bedroom window.

He was never more thankful for his wisp of a figure than when he had to shimmy out of a window and down a trellis, tossing his shoes and shirt down ahead of himself. "Oof," he grunted as he managed to land on the ground with mild impact. Right in front of an increasingly familiar figure.

"This isn't what it looks like," Endy said as he looked around to see where his shirt had landed. "I swear I was not robbing that house."

Merlin, early morning patrols were hell. Benji had brought a coffee from the precinct and it still wasn't doing enough for him, even though he'd finally made it out of the Slums and Pennyworth and into the South Bartonburg portions of his travels. At least he hadn't encountered any shenanigans yet - until he stopped dead in the street and watched someone shimmy, shirtless, out of the window of a South Bartonburg home.

Benji drew his wand and could have sworn when he recognized the culprit.

"I'm really gonna need more than that," Benji said, preemptively exasperated by the redhead, because, well - he had many good reasons to be preemptively exasperated by the redhead.

"Let me get a shirt on, yeah? People oughta pay for a view of all this," Endy said a little brazenly as he took a moment to shimmy his hips at the other man before looking around for his shirt and shoes. Once he had found them, he pulled them on. His mind went through the usual lies that he might say in this situation.

"Why don't you tell me what you think I was up to and I'll let you know how hot or cold you are. Bring a little fun into your morning."

Benji would have said something snarky about the shirt thing, but he really did prefer his conversations with the redhead happen when they were both wearing clothes. (This was not a distinction he would have thought he'd have to make, but the boy had a habit of surprising him. At some point Benji probably ought to learn his name.)

"Well, I think you were robbing that house," Benji said dryly. This did not explain the shirtless thing, though.

Endy couldn't help it. He laughed. Long and hard. "Know a lot of thieves that go about it almost naked, do ya?" He could probably get away with just saying 'I was with a lover' without actually disclosing gender but that did not occur to him at the moment.

Benji couldn't really argue with that, but he did make a choking sound. "Do you have a different explanation?" he asked, when he managed to recover himself.

Endy laughed even more, needing to hold his sides as the man made a choking sound. "I did tell you I wasn't robbing it. I was a very welcome guest until the morning came is all I shall say." He waited to see if the constable would clue in now though he kind of hoped he wouldn't. This was amusing.

Benji was exasperated, and rubbed one hand down his face because of it. "Are you speaking in riddles?" he asked, and he had a strong feeling he was not going to like the answer.

Endy laughed again. "Anyone ever tell you that you're fun to rile up?" He asked instead of answering the question. At least for the constables sake, Endy was finally all properly attired. He had no intention of being tossed in the holding cells so he kept walking though not so fast that the constable couldn't keep up.

"I'm pretty sure you've told me that," Benji retorted. Against his better judgment, but according to the parameters of his job, he began to follow the redhead down the street. "I should really lock you up for a few hours one of these days." He should probably do it today, since he still didn't understand why the redhead had been in a home in Bartonburg.

RE: One trick ahead of disaster - Friendless Night - May 23, 2021

Endy let out a sound that sounded quite close to an actual cackle. "If you wish to spend time with me so badly, no need to lock me up," Endy said with a side glance to the constable. "I'd be quite willing." He was sure the constable would be lost in what they were talking about again so he didn't really wait for an answer as he began moving back towards the slums.

Benji was a few paces behind the redhead when it hit him. "Hey!" he said, sounding more startled than offended. The redhead was flirting, like he'd been almost-maybe-sort-of flirting last time, and it made Benji feel just as uncomfortable now as it had the first time. "Y'can't be saying that sort of thing!"

Endy just laughed. "Relax, it's only us and the sun. And those geese," he said, eyeing the birds that had likely strayed too far from the pond in Padmore Park. "Why are you still following me anyway. You must know I ain't gonna admit to nothing. Especially since I was tellin' the truth."

RE: One trick ahead of disaster - Benjamin Woodcroft - June 30, 2021

"'Cause maybe if I follow you long enough you'll go ahead and do another crime," Benji retorted, although he didn't have much of a good answer. (The real answer mostly being that he was bored.)

RE: One trick ahead of disaster - Friendless Night - July 26, 2021

"I'm not daft enough to do crime when a constables tailin' me," Endy pointed out with a laugh. "I could ditch you if I wanted, too." He wasn't inclined to do so right now, though. Instead amused to see just how long the constable could put up with him before giving up.

RE: One trick ahead of disaster - Benjamin Woodcroft - August 3, 2021

"I feel like you should take me more seriously," Benji said, although his tone was more amused than annoyed. The redhead didn't have much evidence of Benji's seriousness, after all. (Most people didn't.)
