Ladies Duel: Miss P. Dempsey vs. Miss E. Black - Charles Macmillan - March 9, 2021

March 7th, 1891 — Hogsmeade Memorial Ballroom, Hogsmeade

It was very likely that the winning spinster was one of the two ladies before him. Charles was neither overwhelmed, underwhelmed, or whelmed by this observation. Charles didn't care.

"Miss Dempsey, please do the honors."

Porphyria had not been prepared to get this far, and half wished she had brushed up on some more useful duelling spells beforehand for her arsenal. Still, she inclined her head at her next opponent and this time attempted to conjure a mound of earth above Miss Black’s head, which ought to shower down upon her like a particularly localised avalanche.

Elladora had a degree of respect for a young lady who had managed to come so far in a tough competition so after inclining her head she cast a simple shield, not wishing to over-embellish her return.

It might've been pretty if it hadn't been dirt. What the devil was wrong with these females?! Miss Black's shield charm functioned much like an umbrella for the dirt that tried to rain down upon her. If it had been snow it would've been a pleasant thing but it wasn't and Miss Dempsey oughtn't to wonder why she was going to die alone and unwed. "The round goes to Miss Black - please begin the next when you're ready."

Elladora, though impressed by the young lady's attempt, was nevertheless ruthless as she cast a wall of fire around her opponent.

The shield charm having impeded her first attempt, Porphyria suspected she might have met her match here, but all the same did her best to disperse the fire by blasting it apart. If it worked as intended, the sparks should be blown away into the shape of little fiery bats, and swoop off around the room above their heads.

Miss Black conjured fire and Miss Dempsey appeared to be dealing with it by dispersing it somewhat in odd swooping shapes, but with mixed success. It was looking like it might be a draw until Charles spotted the hem of Miss Dempsey's skirt on fire.

That decided it then.

He extinguished the flames promptly. "The duel goes to Miss Black."
