Ladies Duel: Miss. N. Lécuyer vs. Mrs. N. Malfoy - Faustus Prewett - February 14, 2021

March 6th, 1891 — Hogsmeade Memorial Ballroom

A debutante versus another society wife. Malfoy's wife, at that. With them being on the Wizengamot together, Faustus figured that perhaps if he were to give his opinion, he might favor his co-worker's wife than anything. Only time would truly tell, however. With the rules stated clearly, Faustus motioned for Miss Lécuyer to begin.

All decorum observed, Naeva offered only a smile as she cast a freezing charm (not to be confused with a freezing spell, as the charm doesn't involve any ice at all) at her opponent.

Nova had thought the dueling tournament - being ladies only - would be a decorative competition rather than combat as the mixed gender duels were, as ladies had been obliged to duel until a few years ago. Thus she chose for her first spell to conjure a unicorn.

Mrs. Malfoy's tactics, while unusual, had worked for her in this round as Miss Lécuyer's charm hit not it's intended target, but a fully grown unicorn.

It also so happened that the unicorn was in the middle of a most spectacular rear, and so the freezing charm hit at the exact moment to turn the animal into a wonderful potential centerpiece that looked fit enough for a hostess's party.

With a slight cough to disguise his amusement, Faustus motioned to his co-worker's wife. "Mrs. Malfoy is the winner in this round — Mrs. Malfoy please begin when you are ready." As he spoke, he waved his wand to vanish the unicorn.

It occurred to her that her opponent probably hadn't been trying to freeze her unicorn in a majestic pose - was this not an ornamental competition? Oh dear. Combative magic was not her forte. Did she really want to win this duel at all? She'd only have to duel more if she did...

She chose to cast a spell to turn her opponent into stone.

Well, that hadn't gone as planned. So Naeva conjured, of all things, a large and somewhat ornate mirror for the other witch's spell to strike. Better an inanimate object than herself, she justified.

This had to be the oddest mix of a ladies ornamental challenge and a legitimate duel. Faustus watched as Mrs. Malfoy's spell hit Miss Lécuyer's mirror and promptly turned it stone. Well, perhaps that particular decoration would have been useful at Halloween.

"This point goes to Miss Lécuyer — Miss, whenever you're ready, please begin our tie-breaking round."

Without missing a beat, Naeva cast a stunning spell, plain and simple, at her opponent.

She had lost the round but at least she hadn't been hit with an unpleasant spell. Nova wasn't sure on what grounds Mr. Prewett had thought her spell inferior but he knew more about such things than she did.

Rather than use a unicorn as an accidental meat shield, this time Nova actually attempted a proper shield charm.

Mrs. Malfoy's sheild worked as it should — Miss Lécuyer's spell bounced right off the shield and went straight back to it's caster. As the debutante crumpled to the ground, Faustus nodded to the healers to come and restore her. "The victor of this round goes to Mrs. Malfoy." he stated clearly. "Congratulations Mrs. Malfoy."
