Ladies Duel: Miss H. Scamander vs. Miss I. Noel -
Tybalt Kirke - February 14, 2021
6th March, 1891 — Hogsmeade Memorial Ballroom
He was not sure whether this Miss Scamander had even partaken in duelling tournaments before, but he
was fairly certain Miss Noel from the Department of Magical Law Enforcement had some experience in them. Though she struck a petite figure even opposite another lady, her skill at spellcasting was not to be underestimated, Tybalt thought.
But she was on defence first, so after reciting the
rules, Tybalt said brightly,
"Miss Scamander, start us off, if you please!"

Helga was no expert duelist, but this was for charity and Helga was not about to pass up the opportunity to put herself in the limelight. She was not sure whether or not the fact that she was up against a half-goblin made her less or more uneasy; on one hand, she shouldn't expect that a half-goblin should be especially talented in anything, but on the other hand she would look like a fool if she lost. So.
For her first spell, Helga attempted to to turn the platform under Miss Noel's feet into quicksand.

Standing here now, she felt a little bit silly trying to dueling debutantes. It had been one of her coworkers that had talked her into competing having gone on and on about how she'd wanted someone to compete with her. But standing against someone who likely never needed to use magic in a manner essential to her survival she wasn't sure how to approach this. The last duel she'd been in was at least someone she could take seriously. How aggressive was she supposed to be in her magic choices? She got the impression this was supposed to be far more showy magic than function magic. Meaning she likely shouldn't send Miss Scamander face-first into the floor as she had Mr. Montdragon in her last duel... which if she remembered correctly Mr. Kirke had also moderated.
As the other woman started to cast, Iziza fired off a spell that if successful would cause Miss Scamandar to find her wand transfigured into a flower.

Tybalt had thought Miss Scamander's spell a strong opener - Miss Noel had sunk another foot or two into the floor into the quicksand, and if anyone could afford to lose so much of their bearing while retaining dignity, it probably wasn't her - but, diminutive stature or not, Miss Noel's transfiguration had hit, and without a working wand it was Miss Scamander, in the end, who would be worse off in this fight.
Tybalt ended both enchantments and said, "Miss Noel takes the round, and may begin the next!"

The sensation of sinking into the sand was not something she particularly enjoyed is what that had taught her as she brushed off the stray grains of sand off her dress. Contrary to what one might think, her height did not bother her any longer but the spell had inspired her next charm. A growing spell that would find Miss Scamander very much ado to eating one of the cookies in Wonderland where she would end up too big for the room should it succeed.

Her wand now back in working condition, Helga was determined to be more useful than Miss Noel. She supposed a proper shield charm, or even the disarming spell would have worked just as well, but Helga went a little overboard and tried to turn the half-goblin's white hair to feathers.

Miss Noel's hair did get a little feathery, but once again it was Miss Scamander's state that was the more debilitating - she was growing taller at a rapid clip, and if he had not cast a charm to halt her growing, Tyb suspected she might have eventually shot through the ceiling.
"Perhaps you'd like to visit the healer on duty to be shrunk, Miss Scamander," Tybalt suggested apologetically to the debutante, not about to start the process himself, in case he missed her usual height and she ended up a little goblin-like, herself, "for Miss Noel takes the duel."
