Commiserations - Citrine Weasley - August 29, 2020

August 29th, 1890
Mister __,
I could hardly believe my ears when my mother told me about the Ministrys decision to take Beaters off the rosters of Hogwarts Quidditch! I was so looking forward to another school year of playing together. I don't think this is fair at all, especially since it was the grown ups playing when the awful incident happened.

I do hope to see you at tryouts this year. The positions up for grabs are chaser positions and I am sure you would do well in the position. Please do consider it. The team wouldn't be the same without you.
Miss Citrine Weasley

Miss Weasley,

If I'm not at tryouts, assumed I've been accosted in the corridors by another team and send for me immediately.

This is absolutely ridiculous. One woman dies in the stands and suddenly none of us are fit to be beaters anymore? I've never hit a student in the stands, nor have I ever seriously injured an opposing player. If the Board of Governors would acknowledge that there's a right and wrong way to play quidditch, they might make first year Flying class have a unit on proper quidditch play rather than condemning us to a year of boring play (or in my and Higgs' case, none at all unless we become chasers.)

I'll see you at school. I'll be complaining to Professor Dawson before the feast is over.

Warm regards,
Justice Rookwood

Dear Miss Weasley,

Thanks for writing. I was looking forward to quidditch this year most of all - already packed up my beater’s bat in my trunk and all. It’s a shame, about the news, and I’m sure it’s messed up all your training plans for the school year too.

Of course I’ll be at the tryouts. But it’s not your fault if there’s no room, I know I was best at beater anyway. If I don’t get back onto the team this year, I suppose I’ll have to take it as a sign to crack on with all the work we’re supposedly given for NEWT classes. Fun.

I hope your summer wasn’t too bad, this news aside.

Best,
Nelson Higgs
