Death Mars Quidditch World Cup
Match Paused Amid Tragedy

The long-anticipated world cup quidditch match between Britain and Morocco came to an abrupt—and unheard of—pause on Saturday following the chaos of a bludger in the stands. Though not unprecedented, the carnage it wrought was: one woman has died and at least one more has been injured as a result.

The match was halted at eighty points to sixty in favour of Britain, and is expected to be resumed sometime next week.

The Victim: Mrs. Ethel Turnbull, 20, of London was born Ethel Quiddel, the eldest child of Prophet Sport Editor, Mitch Quiddel. In addition to her parents and younger siblings, she leaves behind her husband, notable broom racer Gregory Turnbull and their infant son, Edward. The Hufflepuff is remembered as a kindhearted and vivacious young woman with a fondness for Exploding Snap.

The Culprit: The bludger in question was misdirected by Mr. Lachlan Macfusty, 30, of the Hebrides. Mr. MacFusty is a veteran of the sport, where he has spent the better part of a decade playing for the Chudley Cannons. Neither Mr. MacFusty nor his team's sponsor, Mr. Theodore Gallivan, were available for comment.

The affected box was well-situated, with tickets available at a middling price. As a result, it was full of eager spectators, including a number of children.

"I think it is safe to say that there are not words to express adequately the gravity of what has taken place," said Mr. Fitzroy Prewett, director of the Department of Magical Games & Sports. "As a former beater myself, I confess that this is not something one ever things possible—but the unimaginable has, indeed, happened here today, and I think it is safe to say that the condolences of not only our nation but those who came to observe the match are with the Turnbull and Quiddel families now."

The match, Mr. Prewett has revealed, will resume 'sometime next week', and the department head assures that spectator safety will be pursued with renewed vigor. In spite of this, not everyone feels safe returning to what was, for so long, considered one of the greatest sports in the wizarding world.

Editor's Note: Mr. Quiddel extends his profound thanks to his loyal readers for their condolences, but he and his family would prefer to be left to grieve in private at this time.
