2020 Gaming Lists -
Sisse Thompsett - June 4, 2020
So I know we have a 2020 Reading List, but I also know a lot of us play some video games too. So I thought I'd start a list for that (and steal the intro to the Reading List while I'm at it).
Keep track of the games that have your attention this year in whatever format you like. Feel free to include pictures, reviews, even your best beer pairings. Whatever floats your boat. Tell us what you're playing, finished, recommending.
Two things to keep in mind:
- Spoilers in spoiler tags, please!
- Don’t break the page or the code

I'm a play one game and finish it type of person, so I'm on Assassin's Creed Odyssey right now and will probably be playing it until Valhalla comes out

Like Emma, I'm moreso a play one game and then move on to another sort of person.
Right now, I'm playing Final Fantasy X/X-2! (We recently got done playing all of Kingdom Hearts, which I heartily recommend to anyone.)
I randomly play Sims 4 when I feel moved to do so or between games.

ANIMAL CROSSING NEW HORIZONS. I just restarted my game because I wanted a new native fruit. It brings out all the worst impulses in me and I 100% love it.

I haven't wanted to play the sims in a long time and all these challenges just made me want to. The 100 baby challenge sounds like so much fun.

Recommendations:
- Life Is Strange — I cannot rave about this game enough. This is a story based game where your choices make a difference throughout the game including the end result. The music is great and it's really atmospheric. It will probably break your heart in the best way. There's also a prequel (LiS: Before the Storm) and a sequel (Life is Strange 2), I haven't played the sequel yet but I'm looking forward to it.
- Wuppo — I'd recommend playing this one on a console like the switch or at your desktop with a joystick. It's a cute sidescroller and not super difficult but challenging enough it's not boring. I haven't finished it yet but I really like it.
- A Plague Tale: Innocence — I think it's classed as a horror game and there is some gore and rat hordes but it's set during the plague so what do you expect? There's an element of the supernatural in it and it's very story based. You have a little combat but that's not the main focus. The graphics are lovely and it'll tug at your heartstrings and then you'll accidentally step too close to the rats and get eaten but it's so good <3
- Shelter — Shelter 1 you're a badger on a very set path trying to guide your baby badgers to safety. It was good. Shelter 2 you're a lynx and it's way more flexible and open world and DAMN IT I WILL RAISE ALL FOUR CUBS TO ADULTHOOD ONE DAY! Your aim is survival and the game randomly throws crap your way with increasing difficulty if you're doing well. The studio (Might & Delight) have a very distinct art style which I think works really nicely. Shelter 2 in particular will give you feels.
- Meadow — This is by the makers of Shelter but it's an MMORPG. It's really chill. You don't have to survive or raise babies, you're just an animal collecting flowers, funghi, puzzle pieces, and the occasional gem. Puzzle pieces help you unlock other animals, skins, and emotes. There's no text-based communication in the game so you communicate solely through emotes which means there's no language barrier or abusive asscanoes.
- Little Nightmares — another horror game although this one is very different. It's got a really lovely aesthetic and creepy atmosphere to it. You don't get much explanation you just kinda run through and encounter puzzles and other disturbing visuals. It's got the same kinda feel as Coraline but more mature and a bit darker.
- Yoshi's Crafted World — if you're looking for a cute, fairly laid back but still challenging game for your switch this one is good!
- Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 — I'm currently replaying these PS2 games with my housemate and I'm still on the first game. The camera angles are a bitch but if you like Final Fantasy and Disney then you're probably going to like them. There's also a third game out on PS4 but the reviews aren't great.
- Just Dance 2020 — I suck at dancing but this so much fun with friends.
- Animal Crossing New Horizons
- Assassin's Creed II/Brotherhood
- Dragon Age (all of them)
- Civ VI
- All of the The Sims

This is me except I’m also trying to pretend I like Origins half as much as Odyssey (I don’t yet).
I’m also never not playing The Sims and I have Pokémon Sword on the go!

EDIT: Y'all, they have a
finishing school challenge. That's hilarious. XD

10. The girls must be young adults! If they reach adulthood before marriage, they are to be fed to the cowplant.
The finishing school challenge is wild

totally agree! I've 100% completion on it, found everything, fully upgraded, the whole shebang! Such a good game!
In the same vein
The Remains of Edith Finch - is also excellent, compelling and SO SAD! Seriously - I had to stop playing after one level and have a cry. It's less of a game and more a story you experience. It should have a content flag, because there are a lot of dead children in it...which as I was suffering from post partum at the time was a terrible choice of game, but the story telling is first class.
