Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - March 10, 2020

March 9, 1890 - The Sanditon Resort
It had been likely the longest that her brother had remained in the area since he was a Hogwarts student. Quite frankly, it began to give Freddie hope that perhaps this was a more permanent arrangement. But what would really tell her was him. His words and his alone would truly confirm her hopes of her brother's future. One where she could easily go and visit him instead of perhaps getting a letter or two to him every once in a while. She didn't want to scare him away, but she just had to know.

An invite to tea was extended and she genuinely hoped that he would take the time to meet her. Oh, only a little while longer and her children would be around for summer. It would be so nice if he was around in their lives, rather than the one to simply visit during the winter holidays. A bit smile was on her face as she greeted her older brother. "Arven! It is quite marvelous to see you. How have you been?"

Arven Fisk/Bragi Holm

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - March 10, 2020

With words of deep-rooted encouragement from family, and the discovery of adventures on his very doorstep, Arven Fisk was beginning to realise that even the wildest traveller could have a base of operations. Travel was one of life's greatest pleasures, but there was something also to be said for simply having tea with one's sister under the white British sun.

"Good to see you too, Freddie", he said warmly, kissing her cheek as he was invited into the family rooms at Sanditon.

His pet ferret, Virgil, had scampered from his shoulder down to his feet, now trotting rather obediently beside him as if he were a little dog. To his credit, Virgil had also been enjoying the homelife of late.

"I've been quite well thank you. Though I did meet a vampire in the woods at the end of last month", Arv recalled lightheartedly. "Maybe that's a story I should save for the children."

"How are you, sister?"

RE: Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - March 10, 2020

Traveling surely was nice, on occasion. It made things all the more special. But to do so as often as Arven did? She had to wonder if he would one day find travel dull from so much exposure. Or if he would catch some exotic disease and be unable to return home. The thought did fill her with dread.

Watching the ferret for a moment, she wasn't to surprised that Arven had such a creature. Her own husband took his own interest in unique animals. Both magical and mundane alike. She was sure that the little creature would at least partially appreciate not needing to travel by magic or boat for a while.

Her eyes widened slightly at the mention of a vampire. While she wasn't particularly anti being, vampires and the like could be dangerous under certain circumstances. Mainly, in the woods while one was alone? "Do allow me to be one of those who may hear such a story? Even if you do wait until the children arrive to tell it." Perhaps he was to stay after all?

"I am fine. Still worried over Somersby. Portkeys seem to be causing havoc everywhere. I must wonder as to why such things have been occurring."

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - March 10, 2020

"Of course you can hear it", Arven said of his vampire story, a broad smile warming his face as they sat down.

Though his smile faded as Somersby was mentioned. He had of course heard about the portkey mishap the moment it had effected his nephew, but Arven was a little less worried than some in his family. He didn't know Somersby that well, but he had a good head on his shoulders, and he was a young man now — no longer a boy. Wherever the portkey had landed him, he would surely find his way back.

"Still no news...? Drat. Well, I'm sure he's having a few adventures of his own out there."

RE: Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - April 20, 2020

Such a story was shocking on its own. To encounter a vampire was riddled with dangers, as several recent murders had clearly shown. Though saving one's life was clearly admirable, even if they were undead. If Hebert had been turned instead of killed, she would want him to have been saved by the kindness of a stranger. Goodness, they would technically not have been able to remarry if he had been turned! What a frustrating thought.

Her eyes widened when her brother reacted to Somersby's disappearance. "Oh, no. He's not still missing. I'm just mad at the Ministry for not fixing the portkey mishaps. He's not the only one that has been caught up in this sort of thing." She clarified. Goodness, she could have sworn that she had sent an owl. Did that bird loose another letter? Perhaps it was time for the thing to retire, even if it was fairly young. It was always such a forgetful creature.

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - April 22, 2020

"Ah, understood", Arven replied, ruffling his hair as if to ruffle up his brain a bit as well. There was so much going on in their lives, one thing could be misunderstood for another, and some things could be forgotten altogether. It was good, at least, to know that Somersby was safe and sound. Well, until the next mishap...

"You know, Freddie, I'm probably being alarmingly naive here, but — if you're discontent with the Ministry, have you thought of speaking with cousin Roslyn?" In other words, the wife of the Minister for Magic himself. Arven was far from a political mastermind, but family connections were something... weren't they?

RE: Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - April 25, 2020

While Freddie was quite good at keeping track of her children - what, with the fact that she can't stop thinking about them most of the time - there were times when even she lost track of the happenings of the family. Between her own family and the cousins, there was much to keep track of. Big families were like that, she supposed.

Biting her lip, she tilted her head from side to side for a moment before deciding what she really wanted to say. "I don't really like bringing this sort of thing up with her. She always seems so tense about these things. But this is different. It happened to my son, and several other people. Perhaps I should discuss the matter with her." She mused. It wasn't like she bugged Roslyn every time something didn't go her way.

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - April 25, 2020

"Well, let me know if you need a second", Arven reassured her. Freddie was articulate and could hold her own — she'd always had that gift — so she likely wouldn't need him as backup. But he was here if she wanted him.

"And anyway, I'm sure Roslyn will understand your concerns." He did not know his cousin well at all, but there were some obvious things she and Winifred had in common; "she's a parent too, after all. Not something I can relate to myself; or even imagine relating to", he added fairly.

RE: Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - April 25, 2020

Couldn't even imagine relating to? Freddie didn't like the sound of that. Having always hoped that she would one day have nieces and nephews. Thinking it over, she decided now was the time to bring up what she really wanted to talk about. "Arven, I feel I must say, it seems the best time to finally settle down." She said slowly, hesitantly. Hoping he wouldn't find offense.

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - April 25, 2020

Arven leaned forward to pick up his tea cup and take another sip; not because he was thirsty, but to buy himself a moment of time. Because — what a fool — he'd walked right into this one. He shouldn't have mentioned his bachelor contentment in such a throwaway manner; he should've known Freddie took these things far more seriously than he did.

"Ah please — who would have me?" he joked with a roguish smile, tossing back his admittedly messy long hair. He'd put in a bit more effort recently, out of respect for his family, but the rugged adventurer still couldn't hold a candle to the other Fisks and Fudges.

"You don't... have a lady in mind, do you?" he asked suspiciously.

RE: Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - April 26, 2020

The joking tone did not escape her notice, and failed to ease her mind. This was something she did take very seriously. She wanted more of a life for her brother. More time with him. And perhaps even the chance for him to one day experience fatherhood. "None in mind, but don't think that I haven't considered looking."

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - April 26, 2020

Arv cringed slightly at the thought.

"Don't get me wrong, Freddie — I've learned to love being back home, and I have you to thank for that. And the children", he added fairly; the family as a unit had persuaded him to stay. "And it hasn't stopped me spending most of my time adventuring anyway." i.e. doing what he loved... just from a home base this time.

"But do you really think a wife and little ones would be happy with a patriarch who spends all of his time out the house?"

RE: Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - April 26, 2020

The problem was that Freddie wanted her brother to stay in the house, just a bit more. A few adventures here and there were one thing. But running around with vampires and hags unsettled her.

Upon hearing him say that left her thinking of their own father. A man who disappeared from their lives, searching for a wife that didn't want to be found. Could she really bare to hear that her own nephews and nieces were to be put through a similar situation? "When will running with werewolves become too much, Arven?" She asked softly.

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - April 26, 2020

Arven leaned his elbow on the table — something his grandfather had always told him not to do. He ruffled his hair again, feeling slightly stressed, but couldn't resist another joke; "maybe you'll just have to arrange for an 'accident' to keep me grounded", he jested. If he had a broken leg that wouldn't fix, or some curse to weaken him perpetually, then maybe...

No, he'd still find a way to get out there and particulate in this wild, wild world.

"I'm sorry", he dropped the light-hearted tone at last. Winifred was really trying, after all; and he had a great deal of respect for her efforts. "I promise I'll... I'll try."

RE: Time to Get Real - Winifred Fudge - April 26, 2020

Arven Fisk was wild, and at times improper. But Freddie didn't mind that as much as the risks he put himself through. Interesting hobbies and such weren't that bad, but she just wanted a hint of normalcy for her brother. Her eyebrows raised slightly at his joke. But when he finally got serious, she did relax some. "Thank you."

RE: Time to Get Real - Arven Fisk - April 26, 2020

Arven offered a sincere smile and drained the rest of his tea — good old British home-grown tea. A thing of settled people.

"So.. do you still want to hear my vampire story?" he asked cheekily, now that such escapades had been dismissed as too dangerous.
