Normally he would have immediately dismissed the chances of the debutante against a grown man - although admittedly it was hardly one who shared his brother's worthiness - but this young woman was a Lestrange. All bets were off.

"Miss Lestrange, if you would begin."

By this stage it went without saying that both parties acquitted themselves admirably enough but Mr Crouch's shield charm was a tad too slow and though it materialised perfectly it was a scant consolation for the fact he was rigid on the ground.

"First blood to Miss Lestrange. Mr Crouch, your rebuttal."

Well, drat. Better throw something unexpected at her, Ben decided, so he could try to get the upper hand again. The spell he attempted conjured a large deer with an impressive set of antlers to chase her off the stage.

Miss Lestrange didn't seem the sort of young lady who could be startled easily and so it was that her shield charm was conjured perfectly and Mr Crouch's efforts were dashed against it.
