January 4th, 1890 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic
It would be his last match of the morning, but not of the day—all of the student matches would take place today, so that they might return to Hogwarts unimpeded on Sunday. Nik proceeded quickly through the rules, knowing that the sixth years had heard them before.
"Miss Fawley shall open on the offence, with Miss Rookwood on the defense," the professor finished. "Begin!"

Clementine curtsied politely. She was sure there were likely other things she could have used her saved up pocket money on, but she was determined to focus on her future so she could take care of her family.
She steadily raised her wand and intoned, "Confundo."

Miss Rookwood, it seemed, had chosen offence as her defence, a move that Nikolai respected and did not often see amongst student duels. It was a gamble, and one that paid off—the professor awarded the first point of the match to the Hufflepuff.

Clem allowed a small smile to touch her lips. She seemed pleased she had done well, but she did turn her grin into an encouraging one when she turned back to Cordelia.
"Impedimenta," she stated firmly.

Cordelia pursed her lips ever so slightly, but clapped politely and smiled back at Clementine nonetheless. The Hufflepuff had always been nice to her, and so there was no reason for Cordelia to feel any sort of animosity towards her aside from the competitive kind that would - hopefully - fade quickly.

Miss Rookwood proved once again successful; though the Gryffindor prefect had taken a page out of her competition's book, at the end, it was speed that was the deciding factor.
