Dueling '90: Royal Pyrites vs. Acacia Ruskin - Constance Sykes - January 4, 2020

January 4th, 1890 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic

Neither of the students taking their positions were ones Connie had been obliged to have much to do with in the past so their capabilities were something of a mystery to her, which was broadly how she liked her duels. The unknown always added a certain element to proceedings.

"Mr Pyrites, you will cast first."

Royal observed the niceties of dueling before taking his position. He had never had much cause to interact with the redhead but she always seemed rather nice. Once they were bid to begin, Royal cast the jelly fingers jinx.

Of course, as a proper young lady, Acacia practiced the proper etiquette of dueling before they began. This was her last year of Hogwarts, and she wasn't sure if she would really take up dueling as a hobby once school was over. Either way, it was best to make this competition count. "Finite Incantatem!" She cast in the hopes of stopping the spell he was using.

Connie was impressed by both of their speeds but Mr Pyrites cast his spell a fraction quicker and Miss Ruskin's fingers trembled uncontrollably before she could finish her defence.

"First points to Mr Pyrites, Miss Ruskin please begin the second round when you have a grip of your wand."

Not a good start, which Acacia was disappointed by. Still, she couldn't give up. Aiming at Mr.Pyrites wand, she cast her spell. "Duro!"

In response to Miss Ruskins spell, Royal threw up a shield spell. "Protego!"

Privately Connie congratulated the young woman - that was much more like it! Admittedly it wasn't perfect, as only half of the young man turned to stone but it was more than good enough.

"Miss Ruskin takes the round and Mr Pyrites will begin the deciding bout."

Making an attempt to dodge Mr. Pyrite's spell, Acacia attempted to then use the color-changing charm to turn him purple.

What was this young man's interest in making things wobble? Whatever it was his aim was just as unstable and the spell flew past Miss Ruskin with quite a gap to spare and very quickly the boy turned purple. It might not have exactly been an effective attack or defence but it was certainly striking.

"Congratulations Miss Ruskin, five points to Ravenclaw and you will advance to the next round."
