History of Magic - King Lukeson - August 24, 2019

August 6, 1889
"Professor Darrow,

as you know, I have been a student to your History of Magic class for the past five years. For the better part of it, I have found hobbies, interests and readings with which to occupy my time. Your subject, albeit primarily focused on past events, helped me better understand the world in which we live in, with all its merits and issues.

You might be aware of how fond I have been of writing for over a decade. If I recall it correctly, there was an instance in my first year in which you caught me writing during your class, as opposed to paying attention. I am not, or so I hope, the young man I used to be, and have since then strived to do my best, which proved much less of an effort than I initially imagined - that is, because I admire the contents I learn in History of Magic, as well as your guidance.

However, I cannot deny the effects that recent events have taken upon myself and my family. The years have not been kind, sir, which you might know about through reading the newspapers. Although this is not an excuse for my lack of focus, tragedy has weighed on my shoulders and, for once, I could not be the student I always hoped. My grades do not lie. An "A" in History of Magic is a grade I would have thought impossible if not for what took my thoughts away from school, and it's something I'm deeply ashamed of, though it hurts me to admit.

With this in mind, hoping it's not too much to ask, I would like to ask you to consider taking me as a student at NEWT's level. Although "E" is the minimum grade - fairly so -, I will do my best to learn what I haven't. Unfortunately, I can only promise to try, as promises of action might turn into lies. I would be pleased if you could still take me in as a student. History of Magic has helped shape me as a better writer and wizard, and I would be thankful if it continued making so.

Respectfully,
King Lukeson."
