Only Books?? - Sisse Thompsett - June 9, 2019

In response to this ww rumor

Dear Sloane,

I hope the beginning of your summer break is going well. I know I wrote you just the other day to invite you to tea on my birthday, but I read the most horrible thing in Witch Weekly today and I just couldn't wait until then to hear your opinion. They are talking about getting rid of practical lessons next year! Because of Miss Benet. But that wasn't even something she did it class, it seems horribly unfair for us to sit through boring classes just because of it. We won't learn a thing! Matthew says they won't but he is a sixth year, so maybe they will still have practical lessons. But for beginner and OWL lessons? Oh I do hope that's not the case. What do you think?
Impatiently,
Sisse

Sisse,

Oh yes, I'm very much looking forward to seeing you! What is it you would like for your birthday?

You really shouldn't read that garbage, Sisse, it's all nonsense. You should also know my opinion of that whole situation already. I really don't care and though I don't actively avoid her anymore, I'm not particularly fond of her either.

Wait practical lessons? I won't pass anything without practicals! That's the only way I learn everything, if I'm forced to just read about it I may as well drop out now, that's ridiculous! How could that even be an option?
Fondly,
Sloane

Sloane,

Just the company of my two best friends! And perhaps some new color pencils, if I am being entirely honest.

How else shall we stay up on the news if one of us doesn’t read it though? I could hardly leave it to you or Calla. Besides, while it may be false, it does help to know the latest gossip. Does it not? For instance - practical lessons. Your welcome.

I hope it isn’t an option. I know you are not the only one. Besides, how precisely are we to learn by book only? Magic is entirely a practical application in the first place.

Sisse,

New coloring pencils it is!

You read about the school's lessons in Witch Weekly? Well now I can rest easy, because that has to be false. Why must you get me all worked up like that?

Have you thought about electives yet? I think I'm leaning toward Care of Magical Creatures but I don't know what else!
Fondly,
Sloane

Sloane,

You of all people should know that
Witch Weekly is not always wrong in their reportings. Think of last fall.

I have, but I hardly know what to choose. Mother wishes me to take Earth Magic, although to be honest I have little idea what that might entail. I would like to take Divination and Ancient Studies. But I am afraid if I take all three I should hardly have time to add Art to my schedule. Besides, how would I stay up on all my school work? I think two is a reasonable number to add, but I just don’t know what to narrow it down to.

Sisse,

I'd rather not. That had to deal with my own brother's sheer idiocy. Little to be done when underestimating that.

I could see you taking those! I too have thought about Earth Magic, but also Muggle Studies or Ghoul Studies. They all sound like fun, but like you, I think I can only commit to two. I have to make sure I still have time for quidditch.

Which one calls to you the most? There has to be one clear winner, then find one to complement it? I think I'm leaning toward something more practical, so therefore Muggle Studies, but not completely. It's so hard!
Fondly,
Sloane

Sloane,

It is so hard to decide. I feel like my whole future rests on this - which of course it doesn’t. But still. I think you’d like Ghoul Studies but I heard Muggle Studies has less homework. I wonder what Calla wants to take.

Can’t wait to see you both tomorrow!
