Tansy Tatting vs. Flora Mulciber - Phineas Black [Bee] - February 11, 2019

February 9th, 1889 - Great Hall
Why was he doing this again? How did he keep getting roped into this things lately?

Phineas grumbled out the rules and waved his hand, almost dismissively, at Miss Tatting to begin.

Tansy was already second guessing her decision to sign up for the dueling contest. It didn't help the headmaster was judging the match. With a nod and a gulp to the headmaster, she turned to her opponent and bowed.

Unsure what to do, she waved her wand and said, "Nox." Maybe if her opponent couldn't see wit the lights out, she'd have a chance.

Out of all the offensive spell choices Flora had witnessed that day, nox had to be among the strangest. She stared at her opponent, brows knitted together and wand raised as if this was some sort of test.

"Lumos," she cast simply—it was the most logical thing to do! Is this even how dueling worked? She turned to the headmaster—Sirius' father—with a confusion-laced expression.

Phineas stared blankly at the first years. If Sleptov wasn't one of his  more capable teachers, he'd be concerned. Perhaps these two just lacked any kind of creativity.

Thank Merlin the young Slytherin seemed to at least respond to what she was given, and better at that. "The first round goes to Miss Mulciber, please begin the next."

Although she'd done nothing more than light the tip of her wand, the first round had gone to her. Good. Flora was all too eager to do something more flashy in the second round, so with her wand pointed at the Hufflepuff and a broad grin across her face, Flora cast, "Petrificus totalus!"

Tansy really was well out of her element. Signing up had clearly been a terrible idea.

With cheeks bright red with embarrassment, she brought up her own wand and attempted to cast a disarming spell before her fellow first year had a chance to really get her spell off.

Well, that was a little better at lest.  And look at that, the little Hufflepuff could cast something useful. Phineas returned Mulciber's wand and motioned toward her opponent. "Miss Tatting this round, please begin the last."

Well, Tansy hadn't done as poorly that time around. With a deep breath, she waved her wand and said, "Petrificus Totalus." Not the most original since her opponent had just used it but perhaps it would do the trick.

Flora, in return, attempted a tongue-tying jinx.

Ah, quick and painless, Phineas' preferred outcome to duels. Though he was disappointed in the young Mulciber, there wasn't much he could do about it. "Miss Tatting wins." And that was that.
