Just Merry Christmas, I Guess - Archer Belby - December 19, 2018

This letter is unsent, crumpled up, and crammed on his bedside table. The handwriting is shaky, tentative. It was clear he had waited some time before getting up enough courage to even jot down the few words it contained.

December 20, 1888
Father,

I assume it was you who sent the potion kit. I do wish you had included a note. Then, I wouldn't have asked Mother about it and made her cross.

I'm not angry you left. Life can't be easy when you're a werewolf. Everything I've read makes it sound tough.

I just wish you would have said goodbye.

I hope that, in the new year, you can remember us. We don't have to see each other if you don't want. You could just send a letter back, and maybe we could be pen pals. That would be fun. Mother and Aria wouldn't even have to know, but I know they'd probably want to hear from you, too.

This letter is sent by Archer's somewhat nearsighted tawny owl.  Since he doesn't exactly know where his father lives, it is up in the air whether or not the note finds its intended recipient.  Wrapped inside the note are two pieces of hard candy.
