Quote:Which house would you like to be in and why?
In canon, the hat seems to take preference into account e.g. Harry refusing Slytherin. This was intended as a sort of aid in breaking ties but also it's quite telling about the character - which houses do they like/dislike, why, how self-aware are they?
Quote:You catch a fellow student copying your friend's homework in their absence, how do you deal with this situation?
A moral test, but also these kinds of questions are really informative. Firstly you get the character's attitude towards dishonesty and a sense of how rigid their sense of justice is, secondly, there's the friend aspect - do they value loyalty, etc.
Quote:Centaur, unicorn, kelpie, or abraxan?
This was meant to be a sort of throwaway question although the answers do roughly correlate to a house. Or at least they were meant to. Centaur = Gryffindor because of the bold and courageous aspect. Unicorn = hufflepuff because of the purity, sweetness thing. Kelpie = Slytherin because why not throw in a demon for stereotyping fun. But actually Kelpies are my fave and i'm a slytherin sooooo. Abraxan = Ravenclaw because they give me a Ravenclaw vibe and also they have wings which is birdy. The sway these had on sorting really depended on the narrative that went along with it - if a character chose centaur because the others sound scary then it wasn't going to be a point in favor of Gryffindor.
Quote:What would you like to do once you leave Hogwarts?
This was intended as a sort of Slytherin litmus test for the types who wouldn't have flagged up as Slytherin-y in the moral tests. Ultimately, the type of career definitely contributed to the outcome and actually swayed a fair few in the direction of Ravenclaw.
Quote:Your close friend is miserable, what do you do about it?
Another moral test and one I probably could've left out tbh but the more info the better!
Quote:What do you consider to be your best trait?
This one held a HUGE mount of sway with the end results. Not only does it reveal what sort of traits that character values, it also gives an idea of how much confidence they have and what they personally value in themselves above all else.
