CoMC Summer Assignment
— sent home with students concluding years 3/4 —

While your neighborhoods may not be filled with wild dragons or enchanting unicorns, there are always magical creatures roaming about, whether they be the lowliest garden gnome or the unexpected augurey.

For this assignment, you will observe a magical creature in its natural habitat—pets not included!—and report back on what you notice. Your recording should reflect your knowledge (or lack of knowledge, if it's not one we've yet covered) of the creature.

Be sure to note the following:
  • Its appearance. Did it look sickly? Healthy?
  • What it was doing. Was it reacting to human activity? Feeding?
  • A sketch—as simple or extravagant as you're able.*

IC & OOC due date is September 3rd! 50-100 words. 10-20 HP.

* you don't have to actually draw/find a sketch!

Sirens are not native to Britain, but at the Sanditon Resort are maintained in an environment as close to natural as possible. The three I observed were in good health and seemed largely indifferent to human presence, bar one of the females who was behaving rather lewdly towards a male bather.

Such behaviour seems to be par for the course for this particular subspecies of mer.

Puffskeins: An Observation

The Puffskein is an often overlooked creature that is worthy of notice. Having found a small group of them whilst wandering through Diagon Alley, it is evident that they are most assuredly scavengers!

Their long tongues latch onto whatever they can find whether it be discarded food or even bugs. They have yellow fur are round like a furry ball.

I was able to approach one and noticed it was very friendly; it was not scared and hummed contentedly on touch. I think they like wizards! They don't smell like much.

Attached is sketch of one that I have drawn.

The Pixies of Cornwall

During a family trip down to the seaside, a gaggle of Cornish Pixies began flitting about the beach near St. Ives. I am surprised the local muggles do not notice them more often, as the creatures are just as electric blue as descriptions say, and although they are tiny, less than ten inches high, they are tremendously, ear-splittingly, loud. This group appeared to have the usual aims of mischief, for they even stole a sunbather's towel and hid it up a tree!

A sketch of one pixie is attached, although I did not dare finish the watercolour in situ!
