Pop Goes the Puffapod - Charles Hutton - November 10, 2025

12 November 1895 - Intro Herbology class, Greenhouse
Out of all the classes Charlie had to take, Herbology was definitely near the bottom of the list of favorites. It wasn’t as bad as say History of Magic, but Charlie had no intentions of ever taking care of plants – he’d have a whole staff dedicated to that, thank you very much. He had to suffer through the class for the next few months and then he could drop it and take classes that actually interested him. He couldn’t wait.

Today they were discussing puffapods, which were almost as boring as it got; he knew exactly what was going to happen the moment he scooped a bean up onto his hands, mostly because Professor Carrow had warned them a thousand times: don’t drop, don’t shake it, don’t breathe too close to it. It just made the temptation impossible to resist.

Across the table, Miss Gallivan, his partner for this stupid exercise, was bent over her book or notes, doing something actually related to the class. He turned the puffapod in his hands, pretending to inspect it. “You think it really explodes if you just – ” he started, and before she could tell him not to, he tossed it at the back of Ingacio’s head, who was a couple tables over from them, although it didn’t make it anywhere near him.

Pop.

A soft, almost polite sound graced their ears as it hit the floor next to Miss Gallivan. And then, boom, the world exploded. Dozens of pastel pastels burst outward, drifting through the greenhouse like snow. Someone at one of the neighboring tables screamed. Someone sneezed. A second pod went off, then a third, until it was just chaos, flowers carpeting the floor and sticking to people’s hair.

Charlie couldn’t help but laugh. Looks like class just got interesting.
