Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Seojin Jeong - October 24, 2025

November 21, 1884 — Mahoutokoro grounds, Japan (15 yrs, 5th year)
Summer bled into autumn and soon enough the concern over Dae Min-Jee resolved itself. Jin hardly noticed as she slowly eased back out of their lives, rather pleased (if a tiny bit ashamed of himself) for getting exactly what he wanted after acting so badly. But it was only temporary, he reminded himself. As soon as they graduated, Moon-ssi would be married and that would be that. There would be no getting rid of her then. Jin tried his best not to think about it in the weeks that followed and soon the ache numbed, settling into a sometimes forgotten part of his brain. The jealousy however did not—or what it had told Jin about himself.

In the months since his big realization that he might, in some ways, care for Moon-ssi slightly differently than he’d always imagined… Jin had been giving the topic a lot of thought. It was nearly impossible not to when every single thing Moon-ssi did had him noticing, or blushing, or saying something stupid— and when he was still having (more and more of) those crazy dreams! It had also become increasingly more difficult to keep his hands to himself as of late. For his part, Moon-ssi didn’t seem to mind at the very least. Jin wasn’t sure if he suspected anything was awry, but he remained his normal, jovial self about it if he did. A blessing, really.

It was about this very thing that Jin was thinking as he stomped around through the undergrowth of the forest just near the hot springs, rooting around for Yomogi for an assignment. Moon-ssi was behind him somewhere, also rooting around for his own, and Jin had paused to take a breather when the sunlight suddenly hit and Moon-ssi breathed. (He didn’t do anything really, but it still caught Jin’s attention.) It was becoming an increasingly more difficult problem to deal with - this lack of utter concentration - but the half-vampire only smiled to himself. His best friend was so handsome, even when he was knee deep in whatever tangled mess that was.

Moon-ssi!” Jin called over to him, tone cautioning. “Careful, that looks like devil’s snare near your right foot.

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Ahn-Bo Jeong - October 24, 2025

Ahn-Bo Jeong
It should have been more embarrassing that the day after his (very public) tussle with Seojin-a in the palace's hall, his betrothed had requested they take some space from each other. This, coming from the girl who had been glued to his side the very moment their families had arranged their marriage. He couldn't blame her. Going from occasional brushes to holding hands, cheek kisses, and public touches all within 24 hours after his falling out with Seojin-a had been pretty fast. He'd believed she found it acceptable, since she hadn't said otherwise. So when he kissed her on the mouth (no need to review the circumstances for that particular choice) and then had her robes set on fire, she'd apparently decided it was 'too much, too soon,' and they could just wait to get to know each other after the wedding.

Ahn-Bo had cheerfully relayed the news to Seojin-a (who had also been rather cheery about it.) They'd spent the last few months the way they wanted—just the two of them. And if he'd spent those months purposely flirting with Seojin-a just to see his signature blushes... well, that was his prerogative.

Herbs and plants weren't something he was particularly interested in. But when this assignment was given and he'd heard they'd be sent in pairs up the mountain for the day to scavenge for Yomogi—it had suddenly become his favorite thing. He had their shared tsuno-bukuro tossed over one shoulder, happy to play the part of the 'I'll hold the stuff while you find it' part—with mixed results. Seojin-a didn't find it fair that he had to do all of the work. (Ahn-Bo didn't tell him that he preferred to follow his friend around just so he could admire the view without his notice.) So here he was, bent over and peering at plants in an attempt to locate this mysterious herb.

He lifted his head at Seojin-a's warning, brow furrowed, "What's devil's snare?" (He didn't find flora particularly interesting, remember?) Based on the description he'd been given, he glanced toward his right foot. It looked vaguely familiar, like they'd learned about it recently. There'd been a sketch of sorts that Sensei had shown them, hadn't there? "Oh! You're right, it's here," He grinned, rather pleased with himself, and used his right foot to gesture to the plant in question.
Tsuno-bukuro: a traditional Japanese "horn bag" or "knot bag," traditionally used for carrying heavy items like grains, seeds, or household goods. Its name comes from the two pointed "horns" at the top, which are formed by sewing a single, long rectangle of fabric on the bias. These bags were made from durable materials like hemp or cotton and often showed signs of mending from heavy use

Jin liked plants. A lot. If he had to chose a potential career based strictly on subjects he was both good at and interested in he’d chose something in the herbology or medical realms, ideally mixing them together. Herbs and food and medicine all went hand in hand and he was rather gifted when it came to memorizing the various options they’d studied thusly. That was why, when Moon-ssi asked him what Devil’s Snare was, he couldn’t help but roll his eyes and make his way over— just in case. It was unnecessary, because in the end Moon-ssi had recognized it, but Jin tugged him to the left a few paces anyway by the robes. “It is here,” he repeated gently. “It’s a mean little plant that has no qualms strangling you to death.” Though it was young yet and huddled in the darkness at the cavernous base of a much larger tree, Jin wasn’t about to trust it. He didn’t know it grew natively in Japan, or out in the open like this. How strange.

He tugged Moon-ssi a few more paces to the left and finally released his friend only when they were a safe distance. “Have you found anything?” he quipped, knowing full well the answer was no. Smiling anyway, Jin reached for their bag and dropped in a few green shiso leaves. They were fresh and looked ripe for eating. (Not quite the same as the perilla from home, but worth it anyway.) He knew Moon-ssi would appreciate it the next time they had meat with dinner.

Ahn-Bo Jeong
Seojin-A’s unimpressed and affectionately annoyed reaction reminded him of the nanny he’d had as a child. She would have to toddle after small Ahn-Bo and deal with all his antics. There had been similar eye-rolls and gentle tugs to get him away from the danger he’d unknowingly put himself in. This time, he had the capacity to be sheepish for it. Right. Devil’s Snare was deadly. He knew that. (No he hadn’t.) “Aigoo,” he frowned, “We can’t have that. That’s your job.” His face split with an amused grin.

As for whether he’s found anything… considering his friend had just seen the very empty contents of their bag, there was no point in fibbing. “No,” he sighed dejectedly, “I can’t even remember what any of them look like.” He side-eyed Seojin-a with a sly smirk, “If only there were someone who could show me what it is I’m looking for.” He at least knew that whatever had just been dropped in the bag wasn’t what they were out here for. That was a good sign, wasn’t it?

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Seojin Jeong - October 24, 2025

An affronted huff was all the reaction Jin deigned to give his friend as he was accused of being violent. (Which, fair. They’d proven that at least once unfortunately.) Still, it was meant in jest and he haughtily raised his chin with a little mutter of “and don’t you forget it” before handing off the shiso leaves. As Moon-ssi confessed to not even knowing what they were looking for anymore though, Jin huffed a small laugh.

He dug through his pockets and pulled out a small notebook. Inside, there was a sketch of the little yomogi but he had to flip past a few doodles and random prose he’d scribbled to get there. Finding the page, he held it open for Moon-ssi to see. “Here,” he offered generously. “I took a sketch before we left so we wouldn’t have to bring our books,” which they hadn’t thankfully. Jin felt much free-er to traipse around with an armful of herbs without having to worry about his textbooks. Or his wand, he noted absently. He must have left it back in the classroom too— whoops.

I think I’ve seen a whole bunch of it before in a clearing just up ahead,” he mused thoughtfully as he handed Moon-ssi his notebook. Distracted, Jin began to wander in that direction wondering if they were in the part of the forest he thought they were…

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Ahn-Bo Jeong - October 24, 2025

Ahn-Bo Jeong
He laughed at Seojin-a’s snarky murmur. This was why he enjoyed his friend’s company so much. He could joke and tease and say ridiculous things, and Seojin-a would humor him. He understood Ahn-Bo so well. It was nice being able to just be himself around him, not the yanban that was expected of him.

Once he’d been handed the notebook, he took a minute to study the sketch. They did look familiar… maybe they had passed by some a while back? And then, he flipped through the pages that his friend had scribbled on. He’d seen little doodles and writing, but hadn’t been able to decipher what they were. Of course he as going to give in to his curiosity and take a peek. Seojin-a hadn't behaved like he had wanted to keep them private.

Up ahead, the vampire picked his way through the brush toward some clearing. How he knew where they were Ahn-Bo had no idea. Even if he had, he’d have been to distracted by the scribbles to realize. “These are really good! I didn’t know you write things like this.” he called out loud enough so Seojin-a could hear how impressed he was. “Are they poems?” The Joseon court loved a good poem. Men would even memorize them to woo whatever court lady they were after. It was romantic, apparently.

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Seojin Jeong - October 24, 2025

In his distraction looking for the yomogi, Jin only half heard what his friend had said and imagined he was talking about the sketch. He waved his hand dismissively and grunted as if it was no big deal; he’d used a copying spell, it wasn’t like he’d sat there and drawn it by hand. But then Moon-ssi said the word ‘write’ and something triggered in Jin’s brain. The lyrics.

He came up short and turned quickly, a warm blush already blooming across his face. They were too far away for him to snatch it back and that would have been rude anyway. “N-Ne,” he answered shyly instead. Spirits, he’d forgotten he hadn’t shown Moon-ssi any of his writing before. Understandably maybe, considering a lot of the more sentimental ones were about him or things from home Jin didn’t typically share. But mostly him. Moving back towards his friend as the itch to peel his notebook away grew, Jin waved him along. “They’re nothing really…” he said. “Just thoughts mostly. Sometimes with a melody or rhythm or poetic structure.” He shrugged slightly, still flushed.

Ahn-Bo Jeong
At first, Ahn-Bo was too busy flipping through the pages to notice that Seojin-a had turned back his way. Some were more complete than others—a brief scribble of a line here, another there—while others were more developed. These were songs. Given his upbringing, he'd only ever heard jeongak at court. Though he knew there was minsokak as well. Which one did Seojin-a favor? He brought his head up to ask (and maybe even request he sing one), but his words caught in his throat. His friend was embarrassed about them. Maybe he hadn't wanted Ahn-Bo pawing through them after all?

Quickly, he flipped the notebook closed and crossed the remaining distance to return it safely to Seojin-a’s hand. “Malsomssiga jonneyo,” he murmured in awe, gazing at his friend’s face as if seeing him anew. Just another thing that the vampire excelled at but kept to himself. After seeing the inevitable blush that appeared on Seojin-a’s cheeks, he brushed past him (more closely than necessary, but he couldn’t resist) and headed in the direction of the supposed clearing. “You’re certain there’s a clearing here? How do you even know where we are?” Aside from knowing if they were headed up the mountain or down it, the rest looked the same as everything else.
jeongak: refined court music for the elite
minsokak: emotional folk music for the common people
Malsomssiga jonneyo: you have a way with words (this may be more for speaking than writing but we’ll pretend it’s for both xD)

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Seojin Jeong - October 24, 2025

Moon-ssi’s response to him was almost awed, making Jin blush even harder. A hand came up to the back of his neck sheepishly and he forced out a little laugh - or it escaped, he wasn’t sure. “Gomawo,” Jin said quietly. He was glad when the book was pressed back into his hands. He wondered how much Moon-ssi had read and if any of them had been about him. Jin was always careful not to use names but he did make pretty opaque references to the sun and moon, both symbolic for his radiant friend in their own ways.

Moon-ssi swept past him then, closer than Jin was expecting, and the slightest hint of amber and something he couldn’t name lingered in the quidditch player’s wake. Jin’s flush remained in full force and he cleared his throat awkwardly before turning to follow. He scrambled to answer the question. “There’s… little landmarks,” he managed. “Like that tree bends in the shape of an oval,” he regained himself and gestured to their left. “We’ve passed it before. It’s how I know we’re coming up on the jeongja,” which was a landmark in and of itself. As if to make a point, the structure came into view a few more paces up and Jin pointed at it.

“We can rest there for a bit if you’re tired,” or bored, Jin wanted to add but he didn’t say that. They had all day to scavenge around for the yomogi and he was pretty sure he remembered now where there was a whole bunch.

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Ahn-Bo Jeong - October 24, 2025

Ahn-Bo Jeong
The way Seojin-a had startled and cleared his throat had Ahn-Bo grinning gleefully. It was a good thing his back was to his friend at that moment. The last thing they needed was the vampire reading into it incorrectly and getting offended in whatever inventive way he could. The con of being clever. The pros far outweighed it—including his attention to details that Ahn-Bo had been oblivious to (like the tree.)

Sure enough, the clearing and jeongja had come into view. He let out an impressed sound as he raised his brows; grass beneath his boots softly crunching as he approached the structure. "A perfect time for gansik." he chirped as they ascended the few wooden stairs to the pavilion. (Because of course he wanted food. When was he ever not thinking about it?)

It was small compared to the jeongja's he'd seen back home, but it felt cozy enough. Ahn-Bo settled himself in the middle with crisscrossed legs. After a moment of digging around within his sleeves, he withdrew a small pouch packed full of dried persimmon and jujubes. He selected a handful of jujubes and expectantly offered them to Seojin-a, "Here." Ahn-Bo could take them or leave them, but he knew the vampire enjoyed them—which is why they'd been stuffed into the pouch.
gansik: any light meal eaten between meals, such as fruit or bread (aka a snack)

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Seojin Jeong - October 24, 2025

At mention of a snack, Jin laughed again— this time more openly and genuinely. He should have figured his friend would be well equipped. Moon-ssi always had a habit of having munchies on him when the time seemed to call for it. Jin followed him into the jeongja and settled across from the other.

The air had a bit of bite to it today as a gentle breeze rustled falling leaves. The red and gold colors were vibrant and calming as water dribbled over a small pooling of rocks that ran just under the jeongja. It was one of Jin’s favorite places when the sun allowed him to trek up without being burnt alive. Luckily the seasons were changing and, despite the cold that drew a small shiver from him now, it was his favorite place to read.

Even today this little portion of the woods seemed awfully quiet, devoid of their classmates or Sensei. Jin smiled as he accepted the offer of jujubes and popped one in his mouth. They were also his favorite. “Gomawo,” he hummed. The wind blew again and Jin huddled in on himself, wishing he’d thought to bring some small dish to light a fire and carry around. He supposed any kind of flame was probably a bad idea in the jeongja though. “Are you excited for the match tomorrow?” He asked, curious about how his friend was feeling. The team had been practicing a lot it seemed lately, almost like they were preparing for something more than just an inter school rivalry game. Jin didn’t think twice about it; he just figured Moon-ssi was training hard.

Ahn-Bo Jeong
"Ani," he answered around a mouthful of persimmon, waving the thank you away with his free hand. Now that the most important task was complete, he took a moment to admire the little spot they'd found... or more accurately, Seojin-a had found and shared with him. The sounds of their surroundings were peaceful; leaves were rustling, and the brook nearby softly burbled. It could have been a lullaby with how peaceful it was. The cool breeze was a touch too nippy, but Ahn-Bo didn't mind. Until he saw his friend shiver and curl into himself, and then he minded very much.

It would be rude to ignore Seojin-a's question, so he addressed that first. "Ne. It's against Kenji's team," his brown eyes were eager and bright, "They have just as many wins as us this term—it'll be a challenge." Not that he wanted to brag (at the moment), but between Ahn-Bo and his teammates, they had a comfortable seat at the top of the school's quidditch bracket. He couldn't help but smirk, "I can't wait to hit him with a bludger." It was only then that he allowed himself to frown in concern, gesturing to Seojin-a to come closer. "You're cold, here, come sit by me. We can share body heat." More than usual, most likely, considering how warm he felt whenever Seojin-a touched him, however briefly. Besides, what better excuse to get closer to his simkung?
Ani: "it's nothing" ('you're welcome' in this context)
Simkung: crush

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Seojin Jeong - October 24, 2025

At mention of Kenji Akio, Jin wrinkled his nose hard. Thank spirits that jerk would be graduating soon. He’d never really lain off the vampire jokes or harassment and when Moon-ssi mentioned nailing him with a blunger, Jin laughed. “I hope you do!” he agreed, perhaps a bit sadistically. It’s not that he enjoyed other people’s pain but… Kenji deserved it. A broken arm or leg might put him in the infirmary for a few days and keep him out of Jin’s hair at least.

He knew that the hard training and long practices were fun, if exhausting, for his friend and so Jin nodded along agreeably. “It’s worth the extra effort!” he chirped. “Your team is doing very well.” Moon-ssi’s team was exceedingly talented and Jin could see a lot of them being asked to play for the national team of Japan one day. Idly, he wondered if Moon-ssi would be one of them. It was a joyfully sad thought for him.

As the other motioned him closer to beat the cold however, Jin blinked. It took him a second to respond and when he did, it was too late to be nonchalant. Jin moved over beside Moon-ssi anyway, hoping that by agreeing he could hide the slight flush on his face. “Geurae,” he hummed. “It’s chilly today.” Settling himself into a cross-legged position, Jin huddled up against his friend’s side. Only for a minute, he told himself as another blast of wind hit him in the back. “I don’t know how you’re so warm all the time,” he muttered, grumpily. Which, untrue. They both knew, or at least suspected, that Jin’s cold touch and lack of decent circulation was due to his genetics, but it didn’t make being cold any more fun.

The soft scent of amber curled itself in Jin’s sensitive nostrils. It was uniquely Moon-ssi’s own and at times could be a little overwhelming hormonally. Today however, as the breeze buffeted them in small bursts, some stronger than others, Jin would have shoved his head right into Moon-ssi’s chest to stay out of it. “I should have brought more layers,” he grumped to himself.

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Ahn-Bo Jeong - October 24, 2025

Ahn-Bo Jeong
Ahn-Bo beamed at the compliment. He was rather proud of how well his team had been doing this year. Their seeker had really come into their own over the last term. And personally, he'd been playing better since he and Seojin-a had made up. Funny what having a proper appetite and sleep schedule and not obsessing over how angry you were at your former friend could do for you.

His eyes were bright as Seojin-a scooted closer to him, his heart giving a soft stutter at the feel of his lithe frame pressed against him. Not that it seemed to have done much good—the wind had picked up. With the way they were positioned, Ahn-Bo really wasn't doing much to block the wind for him. His first thought was to offer his friend one of his own layers, although he hadn't worn any extra either. It wouldn't be very appropriate to traipse around the mountain in his underlayers. There really was only one solution that he came up with that seemed the most effective... but he wasn't certain how Seojin-a would feel about it.

Carefully, so as not to startle or pressure him, he suggested, "You could sit here-" he did his best to gesture as casually as possible toward his lap, "If I put my arms around-" 'you' he almost said, which sounded more romantic than he intended. "Like this," curving his shoulders and bringing his arms forward, he tried to demonstrate what he meant. Gods this was sounding awkward wasn't it? "It would block the wind on three sides for you. And I'm basically a personal heater." Ahn-Bo grinned as if what he said was funny and not at all forward or strange to be asking of his 'platonic' friend.

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Seojin Jeong - October 24, 2025

It was definitely cold. Jin wasn’t sure if it was because they were less sheltered here in this little clearing out in the open than before, or if the temperature was dropping significantly for some other unknown reason. (It wasn’t that late yet…?) But it definitely hadn’t been this chilly fifteen minutes ago. He grumbled a little more to himself and tried to wrack his brain for a good heating spell.

Beside him, Moon-ssi shifted and made a suggestion that at first Jin wasn’t sure he understood. He tried to calculate any version of what his friend had just said that didn’t result in him sitting in Moon-ssi’s lap but it wasn’t seeming viable. Jin blinked and then blushed, heartily. “A-ani!” He refused, embarrassment flushing from his cheeks all the way down his neck and beyond. He waved a hand in front of his face dismissively like it was a white flag. “Gomawo! But really, I’m fine.” A little cold wouldn’t kill him.

Moon-ssi was like a walking heat box though. Jin could almost imagine him warming the floors all on his own if someone stuffed him under the jeongja instead of one of those ondol they had at the palaces. The thought made him smile. “I’ll just steal what I can from here,” he reassured and grabbed another jujube from Moon-ssi’s hands as he went. They were still pressed quite close and it was honestly a lot more effective than being on his own.

RE: Say you love me 세계의 끝까지 ;; - Ahn-Bo Jeong - October 24, 2025

Ahn-Bo Jeong
Aish, it had been an awkward thing to suggest. Seojin-a's blush (likely from head to toe) and his embarrassed refusal had Ahn-Bo feeling just the same. What had he been thinking? He'd been trying to be so careful and slow in his approach all this time, and now... what? The moment Seojin-a complains that he's cold, he invites him to sit on his lap? If he'd been alone, he would have smacked his palm against his forehead for being so foolish. Ahn-Bo forced a hearty laugh, "Ani, ani, I was just teasing!" Yes, that was why he also had a full-body blush and couldn't look Seojin-a in the eye.

He busied himself with shoving a handful of persimmons into his mouth so he had an excuse to recover for a moment. It was poor etiquette, but he was desperate. What he needed was a change of topic. He would have preferred grilling Seojin-a about his songwriting, but he didn't want to pile on one embarrassment after another, or this would become excruciatingly uncomfortable. "How far are the yomogi from here?" is what he ended up settling on. It was uninteresting and rather lame, but it was a safe question, at least.
