Your favorite a-hole is back in town -
Barnabas Skeeter - July 6, 2025
Hello my darlings! I have returned and so has Barney!
His rep will be getting updated to a 9. I updated his full history in his profile, but here's the tldr:
After his humiliating couple of years in Hogsmeade (1886-1889), he ran off to the US to work for MACUSA. He's essentially been away for 6 years and has returned for his cousin
Mason Skeeter's funeral. He's renting a room at a boarding house in North Bartonburg.
I'm looking for plots to get him involved in, here's a few ideas but I'm open to whatever you throw at me:
PUBLIC RUN INS - His boarding house has a terrible cook, so he's forced to find his meals in public (where he may or may not get recognized.) He's also addicted to coffee and struggles to find any in Hogsmeade.
- Since he's been away, he has 4 failed courtships, a failed engagement, and was left at the altar a week before his wedding in 1892. He would have been in Washington from 1889-1892, and then relocated when MACUSA did to New York in 1892. As far as he knows, no one in Hogsmeade is aware of his relationship history. If anyone has relatives, friends, etc. in the states that would have relayed the news, that could be fun.
- He'll be trying to find Amelia Evan's gravesite in Irvingly so he can sad emo boy. A run in with one of her loved ones could be fun. He attempted to attend Amelia’s funeral in 1893 (dragon attack), but was unable to arrange travel in time. Instead, he wrote her an incredibly long letter about how she was his ‘one that got away’ and he was hers. In it, it was mentioned no less than seven times that if she hadn’t called off their courtship and had proceeded to marry him, she wouldn’t have been eaten by a dragon as a lonely old spinster. It was lost in transit (thankfully), so none of Amelia’s loved ones had the misfortune of discovering it.
- Awkward run ins with people at Mason's funeral.
REASONS TO STAY IN TOWN- Hurling your MC girls at him. He's still on the hunt for a wife, although has become pretty jaded with the whole thing. This is a failure that he will not accept. I'm thinking this may be why he stays in Hogsmeade for a longer period or permanently)\, although I'm open to a sordid affair with a married lady too!*
- Alternatively, he could be offered a job that pays better/makes him more IMPORTANT than what he's been doing hiding at MACUSA, which could be why he stays as well.
ANYTHING ELSE- Got an idea? Let's hear it!
*I'm a throw them together and see if they have chemistry then develop the relationship via RP kinda gal.

I have no MC ladies to hurl at him, and have never interacted with him in my memory, but I would love to change that last part.

I have three UC characters and a housemaid.

Gus Lissington - July 6, 2025
Mason was one of Gus’s best friends, they both worked together at Hogwarts, so an awkward run it at the funeral could be fun.

Daffodil Grimstone - July 6, 2025
Um I would die for an Elsie run in, with any of her multiple kids in tow xD
I have
Annora McKelvey Gemma Simpson and
Greer Owens for mc ladies. Greer would be the funniest because she's also A Grump.
Eugene was recently in the States for work with the American magical govt and so they might have already run into one another!
Those are my best bets for now I guess?
RE: Your favorite a-hole is back in town -
Fortitude Greengrass - July 6, 2025
I have a small roster at the moment because #RLstress but I love me some Te threads, so willing to offer anyone. Of note-
Don Juan Dempsey is minimally employed so good for being in random places and having run-ins. He has an infamously scandalous and terrible love life, is currently being sued over custody of his daughter as her maternal family claim he's an unfit parent. Also his brother is Minister of Magic.
I also play the Minister
Ozymandias Dempsey but he doesn't like slumming around Hogsmeade so less likely for random run-in.
Fortitude Greengrass lives in Hogsmeade and can occasionally be seen siding with the ghosts in spirit-living disputes around town, lol. He is preoccupied right now as his wife is having their first baby! (And they have their own ~marital drama~ that makes this extra fraught)

Haha YES, let's do it! Barney would mostly keep to himself, we'd need to orchestrate a reason for them to chat.

My swiss cheese memory remembers he had a crush on Elsie and she was oblivious, right? Or have I forgotten something? Either way, yes let's absolutely do that! Where in Hogsmeade would they bump into each other do you think?
Based on personalities, I think he would dislike Gemma, despise Greer, and Annora's naiveity might work in his favor? I'm open to threading with any and all of them, you know I love my hateships. >D
For Eugene - would they have bonded over failed engagements while over there?

I could see Barney and Don Juan becoming drinking buddies and commiserate.
I think Fortitude and Barney would know each other since their time at the Ministry overlapped. Would he have had any strong opinions about Barney's infamous activities?

Someone
please make
Chrysanta to hurl at this angsty man, that would just be a wonderful delight to witness. I see bickering. I don't even know if it would ever work. But can anyone see my vision? My enemies to lovers crackship vision?
Sweetie Whitledge and him probably wouldn't get along based on the whole 'he tried to have female duelling banned' vibes if he's still got them. But maybe they bitterly bond over both not winning their respective ministry elections?

Yes! He sent her
terrible drunk poetry and sorta stalked her at the
library XD
She can be anywhere in Hogsmeade and Tyb sorta took Barney's job, so there's that too XD
Greer could use the most atm! She's a seamstress in town, maybe he needs something fixed?
I can see that, though Eugene would have to be in the right headspace to spend
too much time with Barney lol
Let's start with Elsie and Greer? I can start Els (would Honeyduke's work?) if you start for Greer?

Yes, yes he did. On that note I have
Tybalt Kirke, a mostly-grown-up happily married father of three... Sucks to be you Barney xD
Porphyria Dempsey was one of Amelia's besties and has an interest in graveyards so would probably confront anyone lingering at her grave and generally have no sympathy for him probably xD
I also have
Evander Darrow who has been in the Improper Use of Magic office 5eva; Elias,
Endymion Dempsey and
Nick Blott were in his schoolyear at Hogwarts (Nick is also a bit of an asshole and loser in love so they might be most likely to be friends etc).
@"Effie Clarke" lives in an unspecified boarding house in Bartonburg (at least until she gets married in August!) so they could be living in the same place and have a run in with the ~newest neighbour in the house! (All I have said IC is that the landlady's name is Mrs. Stewart and she has high standards and "doesn't like anyone very much") xD

Ford is actually softly anti-feminist but quiet about it so his thoughts are "that guy had some good ideas, too bad he was too much of a disaster to execute them successfully" lol
RE: Your favorite a-hole is back in town -
Henry Berkwood - July 6, 2025
Edgar Curtis is my American ex-pat, though he lived in Chicago for the most part.
My only MC hurl options are
Lorelei Owens and
Chastity Bentley, the latter of whom actually knew Mason and will attend his funeral.
RE: Your favorite a-hole is back in town -
Marlena Scamander - July 6, 2025
So I have
Konstantin Fisk who was engaged to Amelia and will punch a bitch who does anything to dishonour her memory, which lbr Barney probably will somehow.
I have cousin
Tamsin Skeeter and auntie
Morwenna Skeeter (who is imminently returning) for family threads but I'm going to go ahead and assume he'll get a better reception from his loving sister than grieving auntie.
And my only MC hurlable lady is
Marlena Scamander who will probably hate him with every fiber of her being!

It could be fun to run into them out as a family! Maybe Elsie is by herself at first, and then the kids and Tybalt catch up to her?
Porphyria Dempsey: YES. I'll go make that thread.
Would any of your Ministry workers like him enough to tell him there's an open position?
For Effie, neighbors sounds great! Mrs. Stewart or her cook are terrible, so Barney gets food on High Street. They could run into each other one morning and walk together? OR he could have just finished dinner and is walking back and thinks she's following him.

She would have to approach him for that, he dislikes children and dirt and pretends they don't exist. :P

Aside from being sexist, he's also very prejudiced so I think he wouldn't be very nice to her... (and yes, he still thinks females shouldn't duel)

He wrote Tamsin a
letter! She could drop by to see him? Or they could just correspond through letters.
What if after he gets caught at Amelia's grave by Porphyria, she tells Konstatine about it? (He could show up to Mason's funeral with a black eye)
He disproves of Marlena's occupation, so yes, yes she would.
