The Flighty Key (DADA OWLs/NEWTs) - NPC - February 1, 2025

5 February 1895, Hogsmeade Hall, DADA Field Trip
You know you’re near the end because it feels like you’ve been inside this manor for hours, so you’re surprised when this room looks deceptively simple—a single pedestal in the center, holding a gleaming brass key. You step closer, and the key twitches. Before you can reach out, it leaps into the air, bouncing erratically across the room like a snitch gone rogue.

Every time you think you’ve cornered it, the key darts out of reach, ricocheting off walls and even the ceiling.

Well then, how does one go about catching it?

open to 2-3 OWL/NEWT DADA students

RE: The Flighty Key (DADA OWLs/NEWTs) - Ganymede Silente - February 2, 2025

Nim had made it this far largely thanks to his personal assistants help. Such as it always had been for the past seven years or so. It would be nothing surprising to most older students who were close to Nims age. They had always been a pair. "If we had a broom, one of you could have flown for it," Nim said thoughtfully as the group pondered their options. He had his staff but he could hardly transfigure it without ruining its intended use. And he doubted they would be allowed anyway even if he was willing to sacrifice one of his blind aides for an optional class activity. "Is there anything on the pedestal?"

RE: The Flighty Key (DADA OWLs/NEWTs) - Sirius Black - February 4, 2025

Sirius didn't really love spending this much extra time with Silente, but Defense Against the Dark Arts was one of his favorite classes and he wasn't going to be standoffish with a roommate when there were house points on the line. Also, he liked when the professors did something inventive, like bring them on a field trip.

"Not that I can see," Sirius said to Silente's question. "But maybe if I climb it?" Not the smartest solution, but perhaps some dark magic puzzles could be solved with brute force — he set about clambering up on the pedestal.
