Toby Seacoal vs. Nathaniel Gallivan II - Phineas Black - February 1, 2025

8th February, 1895 — The Great Hall, Hogwarts
Phineas didn’t know either of these boys, but they both seemed irritating already. Perhaps they both had a resounding sense of enthusiasm? If that was it, it required quashing.

So he recited the rules extra slowly, because he doubted either boy was listening. “Mr. Seacoal,” he declared. He dreaded to see what the boy would do. “Begin.”

It was fitting that Nat was his opponent seeing as Nat had talked Toby into dueling in the first place, and joining the club with him. Which is why he actually knew the rules.

When it was his turn he bowed to Nat with a flourish then decided that distraction in the form of chaos was the route to go. He attempted a loud firecracker charm that he'd most certainly not learned in Charms.

"I knew we would meet on the battlefield one day," Nathaniel said in the tone of an aggrieved man forced to face his life long friend on opposing sides of an epic battle. Not even Headmaster Frowny Face could dampen Nats eagerness to meet Tobys enjoyment of the dramatics with acting of his own.

To counter Tobys spell, he cast the silencing charm.

Phineas cringed a little at the firecracker: fortunately he, unlike Gallivan, did not have to leap back out of its whizzing path to stop from singeing his hair. The silencing charm had, unfortunately, done nothing to prevent it.

"Mr. Seacoal takes the point. Mr. Gallivan, accompanying dramatics are quite unnecessary – your cast." Now could they have something a little quieter this round?

"What dramatics?" Nat asked, blinking at their headmaster owlishly before turning his attention back to his friend. "You may have won the battle but you shalt not win this war. Your betrayal will not go unpunished," he said in his continued faux-tone from earlier. He cast the tickling hex.

Toby had been told his entire life to be less dramatic, as of yet it had done nothing to deter his theatrics - he was, afterall, destined for the stage. Now, coming from the headmaster, Toby hardly even noticed the comment. His eyes, instead, stayed riveted on his friend.

"I will not bow! Your treachery forced my betrayal!" Toby declared flinging a dancing feet spell at Nat, yelling the incantation like a war cry. For Toby was never one to quiet things down.

Phineas gritted his teeth, unimpressed by their antics. Both their spells were mediocre, suffering for their distraction – Phineas glanced over both hellions and ended the spells.

"The duel to Mr. Seacoal. Five points to Gryffindor – and a detention for each of you, for your cheek." They had not obeyed him. (They had had the audacity to have fun.)
