A Sinking Feeling - Elsie Kirke - August 25, 2024

August 25th, 1894
Zelda,

I just wanted to write and check in after the sinkhole in the park, to make sure were alright! I know that's not strictly your department, but I worried you might have gotten sucked in, either literally for figuratively, with work. It always seems like these huge upsets require so much from the ministry. I do have to wonder why they keep happening. I do hope that the ministry is treating you well otherwise.

Either way, please just let me know if you and the family are safe and well, and if there is anything I can do for you. I may be the size of a small hippopotamus, but I would hope I am not entirely useless these days.
Hoping for good news,
Elsie

Elsie,
We eventually made it through all right, although I did venture over to Padmore in order to extract my husband. (Next year I hope for a less eventful birthday.) Luckily, once we ruled out Muggle artifacts, I did not have much at all to do with the sinkhole itself — unlike my old department.

How are you & Mr. Kirke doing? (I assume no sinkhole adventures?) Sending good wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy — I'm happy to take your children for an afternoon some weekend so you can get rest, or to come visit for tea.
Cheers,
Z

Zelda,

I do hope Mr. Darrow is alright! I have no idea why our society simply cannot go a whole year without some sort of magical disaster. I've enclosed some treats from Honeydukes for your birthday and for Mr. Darrow's recovery, I hope you like them.

We avoided this one fortunately, I was in London for the dragon attacks and Tybalt was caught in the snowstorm. I'm not sure either one of us could handle another catastrophe apart.

Bentley would love a visit with Orion, you would both be welcome to come visit (and Carina as well) but I know relief at getting out for a few hours by yourself. Thankfully both my mother and my elder sister are always ready to take the children for a little while so I can get some rest. I'm doing alright, but I swear I get bigger earlier with each one and I feel like I get slower too.
Please don't be a stranger,
Elsie

Elsie,
Thank you so much for the treats! Alfred will certainly appreciate them — as do myself and the children, of course.

I will come next weekend, once the students are back at Hogwarts and I have fewer muggle artifacts misused by children! Is Saturday all right for you, and I can visit for tea? I would also love to chat with you when I am there — there is a matter that I feel too embarrassed asking family about, and most of my friends from Hogwarts & the Ministry do not yet have children. I would love to have your perspective!

Cheers,
Z

Zelda,

You are welcome at any time! I will arrange for my mother to take the children so we can relax and chat about whatever it is on your mind. I'm not sure of how much help I will be, but I will certainly do my best! I will see you Saturday afternoon!
Fondly,
Elsie
