Committee on Voting Reform - Ozymandias Dempsey - November 2, 2023

Oz's main Campaign Promise ™ was creating a committee on voting reform and he intends to follow through!

The committee will be comprised of 10-12 people, but the majority of them will be NPCs so that site staff can massage the direction if needed xD That said, I think it'd be fun to have a few members as played characters! It gives you something to reference in your threads, might create interesting tensions between you and other members of the committee, gives you opportunities to thread with Oz, maybe gives you interesting interactions with other people who have strong feelings on The Vote, etc.

Oz is looking for some mix of these kinds of people: *
- old guard politicians / Wizengamot members
- current Ministry employees (in some degree of leadership position, eg Assistant Heads or Squad Heads etc - probably not the "big deal" department heads because they'll be busy :P )
- people active in the scholarly/academic community
- important members of the community
- people active in business (owners of prominent Hogsmeade/Diagon shops, import/export moguls, etc)
- at least three women
- at least two MC people
- at least one muggleborn witch/wizard

Additionally, anyone on the committee must be 25+ yo with a good reputation and two human(ish) parents (creature/being ancestry of 1/4 or less does not automatically disqualify you but also isn't a great start). Your character should also be able to devote ~5 hours a week to committee business, some of which will be at the Ministry, so if your main career doesn't give you freedom of movement (cough cough Hogwarts professors) you're out. You'd also have to be interested in participating, no one is getting forced into it :P

This is not a first-come first-serve thing as Oz would be hand picking all the committee members, but even if you're not selected there's thread potential for Oz to chat with you and decide he doesn't like you Wink Even if Oz does like you, if Lucius Lestrange is inclined to outright veto your participation Oz would probably not fight for you to be included, because he is invested in keeping Lestrange happy so that whatever the committee recommends has a snowball's chance in hell of actually passing the Wizengamot and becoming law xD

IC Timeline: Oz would be searching around for people in November, getting the committee formalized and approved and whatnot in December, and hopefully they'd start actually doing things in January. Wrenches thrown in plans may delay that, we'll see. That's his plan xD

* if your character might be specifically recommended, by name, by either Lucius Lestrange or Jude Wright that gives you a leg up but does not guarantee you're in.

PEOPLE ON THE COMMITTEE FOR SURE:
Gaius Malfoy
Locklyn MacCoinnich (bc Oz needs a spy on the committee >>)
Laurel Potts
— @"Fallon Hatchitt"
Henry Berkwood
Mariana Macnair

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Henry Berkwood - November 2, 2023

Harry here fits the category of "active in the scholarly/academic community" and is also muggleborn. He also has actual opinions on politics unlike Philomen Huxley, who also falls under the scholarly/academic umbrella.

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Salvatore Howlett - November 2, 2023

Salvatore Howlett is a MC assistant head of department of Spell Damage at Hogsmeade and has an excellent reputation.

Ignatius Prince has some views he would love to enact regards voting and such things but is a hogwarts professor so more restricted in movement

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Sweetie Whitledge - November 2, 2023

Sweetie has a problem with this criteria and would like to plead her case.

I would love to see the IC news announcing this, because Vincent Hanrahan would be protesting that non-humans are yet again being left out of the conversation.

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Ozymandias Dempsey - November 2, 2023

It probably wouldn't be announced until Oz had finalized who was actually on it, so keep an eye out for that later!

Henry Berkwood Salvatore Howlett and Sweetie Whitledge (lol) I am up for threads if you are! Though @Chris you should fill out Salvatore's reputation section of his profile so I know what Oz would know about him beforehand :P

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Henry Berkwood - November 2, 2023

I'm down for an Oz/Harry thread!

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Ida Chang - November 2, 2023

Cassian Valenduris might fit the brief and also could be handpicked pending on how badly this Ozina convo tanks
Marion Flourish would be the most random, but very flattered
Everyone else I have is too young, poor, and/or problematic <3

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Salvatore Howlett - November 2, 2023

Ozymandias Dempsey I have added some updates to his reputation

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Cassius Lestrange - November 2, 2023

Hear me out: if Oz struggles on finding women, muggleborns, and not-rich people, someone could voluntell Ivy Sandow to do it as a muggleborn Ministry employee. I am not invested in this but you know where to find me if he needs <3

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Reginald Alderton - November 2, 2023

I can offer Reg here, as maybe someone in active in the scholarly/academic community

Not Leo, just know that he side eyes this reform committee and rolls his eyes when he thinks no one is watching xD Because he's a dick. I'm sorry<3

I should probably also have clarified that no one who ran against Oz in the campaign is getting within spitting distance of this committee xD We can collaborate on things later when everyone has chilled out a bit, not looking for that drama now xD

I will start a few generic threads and come back and drop them here for anyone who wants them <3

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Timothy Ainsworth - November 2, 2023

I have Timothy Ainsworth who would be interested because he thinks his wife should totally be able to vote, tyvm.

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Elias Grimstone - November 2, 2023

Jude obviously cares a whole lot and will be a complete Pain In The Ass about voting reform whether he is personally on the committee or not... xD DM me if you think he might be likely to recommend your character to Oz, I am very down for threads/letters/whatever and potentially finding new allies and enemies from it!

Most of my others really don't give a toss >.>

Technically Philip is in research but he's too busy with quidditch now xD

I could also see Evander sighing and agreeing to do it out of duty. (He is obviously always pro the Status Quo so it would also be funny for him to accidentally make some feminist enemies.)

RE: Committee on Voting Reform - Madeleine Backus - November 2, 2023

Christabel!!!
Aside from the nepotism it’s the 19th century it’s hardly unexpected - and she’ll take it as payment for her campaign help!

She will promise him faithfully not to be too radical

Also longwei I guess potentially as a lawyer and business person

Hard veto but would LOVE a thread where she asks to be included!

Hahah, I feel this xD I need to close some of his threads before I start anything new. I just meant in the background, because obviously he'll hear about it lol
