NEW MINISTER - BARELY
Dempsey Elected New Minister
In an odd — by which I mean extremely close — Ministerial election, the Wizengamot was tabulating and verifying ballots into the late hours of the night. Finally they revealed that Mr. Ozymandias Dempsey was elected Minister of Magic — but things were evidently extremely close, and the announcement from the Wizengamot appeared hesitant to this paper of record.
Evidently, both Mr. Dempsey and Mr. Jude Wright — an astonishingly far-left candidate — achieved slightly under 25% of the vote. After significant tabulating, Mr. Dempsey was announced the Minister-elect by the Wizengamot's election officials. He will be sworn in as Minister on November 1st, 1893.
The Wizengamot was reportedly baffled by the closeness of the election, and by the closeness of Mr. Wright's candidacy — Mr. Wright being a notable far-left activist. It appears that Mr. Dempsey will have a great deal of work ahead of him.
Mr. Aldous Crouch came in third with 21% of the vote, followed Mr. Lionel Lupin in fourth, Mr. Timoleon Maxime in fifth, Miss Sweetie Whitledge in sixth, and Mr. Emerett Picardy and Mr. Bernard Prewett in seventh and eighth. This closes out a frankly odd Ministerial election — but magical Britain certainly has an interesting road ahead of us.
