Name one hero who was happy - Aristide Selwyn - September 14, 2023

And perhaps it is the greater grief, after all,
to be left on earth when another is gone.

September 14th, 1893 — Magical London
Aristide had gone off to London for the day with Asa. They had spent most of their day in Asa's home, exploring and taking enjoyment in one another. The different paintings that Ari had made for Asa over the years adorned different parts of the small flat. He still saw beauty in every crevice of the others face and body. He suspected that he always would.

He was in bliss, perfectly happy and had long been considering asking Asa what the other thought of moving into Aristides home. it would be hard to explain but surely, they could come up with something. They had not both been Ravenclaws for nothing. He would save that for a later time though as his stomach was grumbling.

The twosome got dressed and agreed to head out to a pub for something to eat as Asa had not yet done a grocery run and his fridge lay bare. Things were fine, the two basking in one anothers presence when it all went wrong. A dragon, there was a dragon in London. It was too much for Aristides brain to comprehend at first.

Then they were running, one of the dragons bearing down on them. Aristide could feel its hot breath and could hear it roaring. The smell of something burning filled the air as the dragon flew after others running away from the scene. "Asa, it went away but we should apparate to Hogsmeade," he said, turning to find his lover no longer there.

Confusion filled him and he heard gasping coming from the ground. Looking there, he found Asa burnt so badly that most probably would not recognize him. But Aristide could. He would know him in darkness, at the ends of the earth, anywhere.

"Asa, Asa, please, I'll get healers here," he managed to say as he cradled Asa into his arms. A part of him knew it was too late for who could survive such intensive burns? "I love you, I love you so much. Just hold on, please." Asa attempted to say something as he reached up to cup Aristides face and Aristide waited at the edge of the world to hear it only for it to never come. Instead Asas hand fell lifelessly and Aristide let out an anguished scream of torment.

He held tight to Asa's corpse, rage and grief all mixing together in ways that were perhaps too much for his mind to comprehend. It felt so wrong to be unscathed and have the man he loved so terribly burnt. "Don't leave without me, don't go where I can't follow," he begged a man who was no longer around to hear it.

Another darkly desperate part of his mind told him that he could follow.
