Maxwell Beck v. Anne Moony -
Benedict Sterling - January 26, 2023
Beaming at the two pupils, Ben clapped his hands together in welcome.
"By now I trust you know the rules!" He said jovially, before taking a step back.
"Mr. Beck if you please, start us off!"

To the shock of literally everyone, himself included, Max made it to the third round. By this point the Gryffindor thought he and Mister Sterling the Auror had a bit of rapport (reader, they said not one word to another). The boy nodded solemnly to the man before turning his attention to the girl. She was taller than him and also vaguely deadly-looking, like most older girls are (except for Sloane, who was an angel from heaven). Not that the girl in front of him made him nervous or anything. Nope. During their break Tao gave him a pep talk, and he practiced this spell once with... mixed results.
He bowed to her, then moved swiftly into position.
"Petrificus Totalus!" he attempted.

Anne rolled her shoulders back, feeling a bit sorry for how throughly she intended to smash the small first year before her. She’d abandoned all thoughts of remorse for her opponents a duel ago. It wasn’t her fault it was so enjoyable to beat boys.
"Flipendo!"

The poor lad barely had time to breathe after he'd cast his spell. Miss Moony's spell hit him fully in the chest and Ben couldn't help but wince as Mr. Beck went flying backwards. The presence of cushioning charms prevented any real harm coming to the students, but all the same, the Miss Moony's spell looked as if it might have been able to take down a fully grown wizard.
"This first point goes to Miss Moony!" He announced.
"Mr. Beck when you are ready, please begin our second."

Cazzo! The kid cursed to himself. Critically, he didn't think Sloane was watching -- but this girl was older and for all he knew all the older girls in the school had some telepathic link which they used to gossip to one another about the boys. In any case, the tumble made his mop of curls even bigger and tie slightly askew. At the auror's instruction, the boy determinedly attempted to give the girl
jelly legs.

Anne had the decency to cringe as the smaller boy went sailing. She knew how much a flipendo to the gut hurt. Then again, if the first year couldn't handle it, he shouldn't have entered the tournament. Deciding she'd smacked the younger boy hard enough, Anne cast a shield charm.

The Gryffindor's spell bounced directly off of the Slytherin's shield, determining the outcome of the duel.
"This round goes to Miss Moony who shall advance to the next!" Ben announced triumphantly, beaming at the Slytherin.
"Perhaps next time, Mr. Beck!"
