The Wreck of the Tartarus - Madeleine Backus - January 24, 2023

Isis needs to step out of her life for a bit. Her father was in the exploration service for a while before the drink took him, and amoung his things she has found a map to a sunken British navel vessel that sank while transporting the contents of a pilfered tomb.

It was rumoured to contain thousands in gold and magical objects.

She is putting together backers for an expedition to recover a sunken British exploratory vessel that had sunk with the contents of the tomb on board - Treasure Island style!

She's not too fussy on who the backers might be. There may be legit types who think it all belongs in a museum and that it should be salvaged to further the knowledge of wizard kind - and then there are dodgey dealers hoping to flip it for cash

If you can pay for her time a share of the take is yours -or at least a share of whatever they bring back.

Room For:

Financial backers- people who just want their name on a bit of history if they succeed, it would also not be unheard of for rich types to come along just to watch the project like a spectator sport.

Historians and archaeology types who actually want to go along/be involved in the recovery

Crew

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Tycho Dodonus - January 24, 2023

Ignatius Quirrell will be hopping on as a historical/archeological type on behalf of the Museum of Magical Miscellany xD

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Melody Crouch - January 24, 2023

Hi yes, Jupiter Smith would be interested as a researcher/former archeologist

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - J. Alfred Darrow - January 24, 2023

Alfred would be very interested in being involved in this, but it would be a blow to his pride to work for someone else while underway (and especially a woman). I'm very into that. Zelda is going to be less into whatever snippy, vaguely-misogynistic letters he sends home

Aunt Clara is apparently interested in salvage diving lmfaoooo and while she does not have any money to spare she could be an ally if Isis wants a connection to help grease the wheels/talk other people into it.

Oz has money and could be convinced to part with some of it but it's not something he's inherently interested in.

If there's any chance of cursed stuff in the wreck Xav is all about that.

AHHHHHHHHHHH.

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Aldous Crouch - January 24, 2023

Fitzroy Prewett could be cajoled into backing if it's Exciting enough, but he would have to be told about/sold on it!

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Agrimony Macnair - January 24, 2023

Agrimony would back it! TBA on if he wants to come along xD

If he goes, take Sage along for brotherly bonding :P

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Walter Staghart - January 24, 2023

Malcorvus Flint would be interested as a financial backer but he'll want first dibs on anything magical for research purposes and/or donation to museums. Good chance he may decide to accompany the expedition, depending on when its scheduled to leave (he does have teaching obligations till school term ends).

Edgar Minks will also be interested in financing for part of the take. Mostly so he could turn it around for a profit but officially to donate for a good cause/musuem depending on what's found.

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Reginald Alderton - January 24, 2023

Depending on whennn... Gus Lissington is an adventurer haha. Or Reginald Alderton because he likes historical things therefore would back it in order to go, and seeing his name down in history would be his pride and joy for years lol.

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Caroline Darrow - January 24, 2023

Caroline would back it... and probably want to come as a spectator but wouldn't be able to (side eyes Evander)

Also@"Everett Swann" would invest.

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Lear Galcote - January 25, 2023

Yes, here, Lear is definitely on board with this! He could probably convince his father (a rather well-off broommaker) to contribute some funds for the expedition, and Lear himself could definitely identify/appraise the objects found within the vessel once it's recovered, although he would be very adamant about either donating the artifacts to museums or to facilities where they could be studied further. Laurenz Mesmer is currently still being apped, but he's the Ministry liaison to Austria-Hungary and dabbles in smuggling & fencing magical artifacts on the side, so he could also help sell some of the artifacts under the table to some well-off buyers on the European mainland (for a cut, of course).

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Daffodil Grimstone - January 25, 2023

Angie Swan could be persuaded, if it's short, you know, in case anything is cursed xS

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Greta Gillenwater - January 25, 2023

Mentioned before - but I'd be interested in making a Crew member (maybe a shipwright/carpenter if that's required on this sort of vessel? or somebody who does salvage diving) . You've had too many sailing plotlines that I haven't been able to join that have me too interested!

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Rose Hart - January 25, 2023

Tycho Dodonus - Ignatius and Isis can have a chat about it in their thread!

Melody Crouch - Isis could definetly do with another strong woman on board - we could establish a relationship for them, that would lead to her asking her or bring in Jupiter via Alfred or something

J. Alfred Darrow - I'll DM you about Alfred's role! few possible options for that one! and Clara there are def options there.

Ozymandias Dempsey, Everett Swann, and Fitzroy Prewett - there is now a notice in the paper in the style of a typical Victorian speculation advertisement. If they want more details, they can reach out.

Agrimony Macnair- let me know! At the very least she might be able to hock some stuff through him when it's over

Malcorvus Flint - same invite to him to get in touch with Isis about the oppertunity, same for Edgar.

Gus Lissington - once Christabel is coping with her grief a bit better they could write about it, given their last chat about tombs, but depending on when it departs he's welcome to come with - as is Reg

There definitely will be cursed stuff on the wreck - so all curse breakers welcome

It would be great if there was a shady side of the venture - and a noble side masquerading as nobel - properly like treasure island.

RE: The Wreck of the Tartarus - Walter Staghart - January 26, 2023

Rose Hart I can start a couple threads with Malcorvus and Edgar getting in touch. Malcorvus would likely arrange a meeting, probably at the Flint Institute if that works for you. Edgar would likely suggest she come to his office in London or someplace of her choosing.

If these thread ideas work for you or if you prefer to hash it out in DM's let me know.
