Carmelina gave the tournament rules a quick once-over, less because she thought this pair were unfamiliar with them, and more in case either thought to accidentally overlook any facet of them. She suspected the boys would be well-matched – but they would see.

Cad saluted Elijah, pleased to have drawn the first position. He cast a spell aiming to turn the others morning coat into a straight jacket and prevent him from casting.

While Elijah Urquart was quite happy to be defensive if anyone dared to offend him, the defensive position in a bout such like this was much less his cup of tea. He hastened to silence Selwyn before the Gryffindor could finish his own casting.

She did not approve of just how much the Slytherin appeared to be enjoying himself but, unfortunately, other than the overt sense of relish, she could not fault his spellcasting. Poor Mr. Selwyn was breaking out into hot patches of rash from it already. (Or from ire; she supposed one couldn't be sure.)
