Carmelina reiterated the tournament rules first, although these two were certainly old enough to know what they were doing, and then smiled brightly at Miss Slughorn. (Ladies first, indeed; but privately she rather hoped the young lady would make a good case for herself by proving herself equally capable of winning, too.) "Miss Slughorn, when you're ready!"

Cad had worked hard to get to know Miss Slughorn better in the past year, but that didn't mean he wanted to lose to her in the duel. She pulled the first position and when she cast, Cad cast a reflecting charm.

The reflecting charm, rather than a standard shield, was a nice touch – though not for Miss Slughorn, who had been stung by her own stinging hex. Harsh, but nonetheless. "Mr. Selwyn takes the first round, and may begin the second."

Pleased to take rhe first round Cad assumed the attacking position and qnd attempted to transfigure Miss Slughorns sleeves into vines which would bind her arms to her side and prevent her from casting .
RE: Alcyone Slughorn vs. Cadawalader Selwyn - Carmelina Cramming - January 1, 2023
Miss Slughorn was unable to achieve anything much at all with her arms bound to her sides by the vines that had embraced her. Carmelina was disappointed, but not quite surprised. Mr. Selwyn was a seventh year, and president of the transfiguration club. That was that, then. "Mr. Selwyn wins the duel!"
