Dearest Aunt,
I did not think it appropriate to pry during my brother's wedding celebrations, but I write to inquire after Cousin Rufina's getting on. Her absence yesterday was understandable, but felt nonetheless; I feel I can be candid with you in saying that I do not ask her as I expect she would put on a brave face rather than an honest one. I should like very much to have you both for luncheon before Christmastime, though thought it best to test the waters, as it were, before formalizing an invitation.
Fondly,
Felicity
