Appearance:
Like the rest of the Brownes, Sampson stands tall at 6'. He has an average, sturdy build that veers muscular because those arms need to be canon and either has a well-groomed beard or is clean-shaven, depending on his mood that week. (Sometimes it be like that!) Overall, his looks favor his mother more than his father, but his height definitely originates from his father and has him quite at home around his over-tall sisters.

His eyes are dark, as his hair, which starts off well-groomed but he tends to rumple it up with his hands when he's thinking. He has expressive eyebrows and a quiet presence. Sam usually wears dark colors, and is quick to smile. He is right-handed.
History:CHILDHOOD

The first child born to the Brownes, Sampson is swiftly joined by a small army of siblings. First there's Chastity, in 1860, and then Calliope, in 1863. Sam actually remembers Calliope's birth, and that same year he has his first sign of magic when he accidentally enchants a not-yet-magical map in the map shop. That would be useful, except for that he enchanted it to start purring like a cat when touched. Oops.

The twins come in 1865, and Gideon's existence means that Sampson finally has a brother. Except that they're so far apart that they don't really have anything in common for a while, so he's always a bit of a loner. He can get along well enough with Chastity and he guesses Calliope when he tries, but as a young boy he's happier to just do his own thing. 1867 brings Loretta, and 1869 Sampson's Hogwarts letter.

HOGWARTS

Sam is rather unsurprisingly sorted into Ravenclaw in 1869, although his mother would not have been surprised if he was in Hufflepuff, either. He is cheerful and makes friends easily, and is dedicated to his classes. Charms is a particular favorite - lucky for his future career - from the very start. In 1872, Chastity and cousin Esther come to Hogwarts, and Sam is perfectly friendly with his sister and cousin when he sees them around school although they are in a different house. 1872 also brings Prudence to, you know, life. The next year (1873) brings cousin Clara to Hogwarts, although it's another few years before that registers with Sam.

In 1874 Sampson sits his OWLs and is pleased with his results. That fall, Calliope joins the gang at Hogwarts. During his NEWT years (Sept. 74-June 76) Sampson plays for the Ravenclaw team as a beater, which coincides generally with him hitting late puberty and getting a whole lot better-looking. He never takes Quidditch as seriously as some of his friends do, and does not entertain playing professionally - he knows what he wants to do, and that's to work for Browne's. So, when he leaves school, he does.

CLARA

Sam's first few years after Hogwarts are mostly uneventful.   He lives at home, works in the family business, and goes for drinks with his Hogwarts friends after work.

1876 sends the twins to Hogwarts, and 1878 sends Loretta. Odira and Gideon are the only Ravenclaws of the bunch, which Sampson probably would have appreciated a bit more if he was still in school.

In 1880, Chastity and Esther both leave Hogwarts. Sampson starts to chat with Esther at parties - they have more in common than he does with his sister - and Chastity gets married before the end of the year. But in 1881, Clara debuts, and Sampson realizes that his childhood affability towards her has become a fully-fledged crush. He talks to her at almost every event, goes to events just to see her, and is, all-in-all, far too smitten for his own good. Everyone thinks they're going to get married. Sampson, definitely, thinks they're going to get married. So it comes as a surprise when, in the end of 1882, Clara stops talking to him and starts paying all of his attention to Benjamin Ross instead.

This rather distracts Sampson from Calliope's new husband's death. Sam decides, perhaps because of Calliope's likely gold-digging, that the reason Clara has moved on is that Ben Ross has a lot more money than he does. That has to be it. She never really liked him, and he says as much to his new confidante, Esther Diggory. That same year of 1883, Prudence goes to Hogwarts.

ESTHER

So maybe 'confiding' gets away from him a little (1884). A month after what is ostensibly the most rash thing Sampson has ever done, Esther confides that she might be pregnant, and Sampson promises to marry her without a second thought (and then they have sex again because, well, it's too late now.)  He has several second thoughts after that, but once they're married things settle into a rhythm.

Odira gets married in 1884 too, and Chastity dies of the laughing plague, which inspires the oops baby's name: Chastity Grace. Gracie swiftly becomes her nickname as Chastity makes both her parents feel a bit too ironic. Sampson is, at this point, mostly over Clara - mostly.

1885 has some drama as Odira - one of Sampson's favorites - gets kidnapped, and then turns back up after having her child in a graveyard. Yikes. He is happy to welcome another daughter in 1886, and the next two years (1887-1888) have Sampson continuing to work on the map shop, older brother all his siblings, and happy. He's happy. That's not going to be ruined anytime soon, right?

Personality: Clever. Mellow. A remarkably steady presence, Sam has been rash exactly once in his life, and it's when he first had sex with his current wife. Loyal. Patient. Romantic.
Of all his siblings, Sam is the most like Odira, and the least like Calliope.
