Thaddeus Flint vs. Leonid Fisk - Evander Darrow - June 28, 2022
24th July, 1892 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic
Why grown men found any pleasure in shooting spells at one another in front of an audience, and worse, had paid five sickles to do it, Evander could not understand; but, theoretically, his money for the duel was on Mr. Flint.
(Even if he ought to favour Fisk – or rather, pity him the more, for having Alfred as a brother-in-law.)
Once his favourite part was over (reading out the rules), Evander sighed and bade Mr. Flint begin.

Thaddeus often missed the more practical uses of magic that his former career had afforded him, but his depth of knowledge was greater now that at any other time in his life. It was why situations like this were fun - a bit more light hearted.
Thaddeus saluted his opponant and when he was called upon to cast he attempted the cruciform spell that would splay Fisks arms wide to his sides and prevent him from casting forward.

The former spell worked as it was intended, leaving Fisk helpless. Ending the spell (without a shred of sympathy for the victim of it), Evander announced. "The first point to Mr. Flint. Mr. Fisk, please continue."

In the end, it was Fisk who was left holding a rose – small commiseration a flower would be for him now, Evander thought, as he undid the spell and announced Flint as the winner of the duel.
