Your section in Witch Weekly's Lonely Hearts caught my eye. I feel that perhaps, if I may be so bold to mention it, I may be the solution you seek. There is nothing I love more than a wonderful conversation with an intelligent man. Of course, there must always be a balance between conversation and studies and this is a line I am very farmiliar with. I should be an excellent companion in balancing both of these for you.
I assure you that I am most loyal in nature, having as many sisters as I do one must be. And while it is quite impolite to say so, I have been told that I am pleasing to the eye.
I do hope you will consider me as a suitable companion.

I had been five days since that blasted WW nonsense had transpired, and three since he'd discovered the culprit (and the ad). And still, here was another response fluttering onto his desk with a proud looking owl awaiting his reply. How long was this going to torture him? Basil wondered, bemoaning his sordid lot in life. He eyed the note, with its crisp slant lettering, and almost didn't open it. He ought to have just crumpled it up like the others and tossed it in the trash, but for some reason, perhaps the late hour and procrastination for grading, he didn't. Instead he opened it and skimmed it once, just as he had the other responses, but this time - instead of frowning in frustration - he paused to re-read it over. Well, this young lady seemed more sensible than the others at the very least. He hesitated a moment, but ultimately Basil pulled a new piece of parchment and scribbled something with his quill in response. He must be loosing his mind, he thought abruptly as he handed the owl his short scrawl.
Miss D.H.P. –
I appreciate your response to the advertisement posted in WW, however I feel I must inform you that it was placed, most inconveniently, on my behalf. I have no interest in soliciting a wife at the present time.
You seem a charming young lady and I wish you the best of luck with your prospects.
Basil Foxwood
P.S. - Should you ever find yourself dulled by the monotony of the social ton and desire a conversation on the topic of transfigurative research or the academic like, do not hesitate to contact me again.
Dahlia was mortified when she recieved the letter. She had written Mr. Foxwood - her former Transfiguration professor. Despite her own mortification she felt she rather owed him an apology for an inconvience, particularly because she had not been the most diligent of students last year. Not that she'd let on to that at all.

Dear Mr. Foxwood,
I sincerely apologize for the inconvience of my last letter. I do hope you will forgive my misstep.
That said, I find the topic of Transfiguration fascinating and should be happy to discourse upon the matter, should you wish.
Most sincerely,
DHP
Looking at the letter she almost couldn't believe she had added the last few sentences, but she supposed she felt sorry for him. Someone most be worried about him to submit such an add. Besides, it had to be lonely up at the Castle as a teacher ... and even Dahlia had to admit that Mr. Foxwood was far from the ugliest man she had ever seen. So before she could overthink it, she tied the letter to the owl's leg and sent it.

Basil eyed the polite response and wondered, idly, who DHP could possibly be. He hated the games and convoluted fog that always accompanied this kind of mating dance. Why the fairer sex had to be so perplexing, he would never understand. Was her last comment there an invitation to share his passion or was it a mere pleasantry he was supposed to overlook? The professor scrunched up his nose and deliberated a moment. He supposed the best way forward was honesty. He didn't expect this communication to strike up any kind of lasting rapport, but on the off chance the young lady was academically inclined, he supposed he had a duty as a professor to see it through.
Miss D.H.P. –
I must confess, I couldn't determine if your last letter indicates inclination of wanting to discourse upon Transfigurative research or if, like most young ladies, you simply have a firm grasp of the polite etiquette our society impresses upon the ton.
For lack of desiring to snub a genuine interest, if one so exists, I have attached herein a copy of my latest submission to Transfiguration Today. Please feel free to peruse it at your leisure and supply me with any insights of criticism you may find! (I am nothing if not open to the evolution of my own work!)
If instead you simply desire to end this communication on a pleasantry, then I apologize tenfold in advance and request you simply ignore the attached altogether.

Attached is an article titled "Transfiguration Magic and its use in Hexes and Jinxs over the last century", clearly from the periodical Transfiguration Today, issued sometime in January of 1892.
