way up high - Wallace Bixby - February 5, 2022

February 5, 1892 — Random Quidditch Stands
There was a game on the nineteenth but it was going to be between Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Even so Wally was getting both regular practice in as well as some extra personal practice. His muscles ached in a glorious way and he was looking forward to spectating the upcoming game. He had ventured up into the stands since he had nowhere else to be. It was chilly and the weather was its usual gloomy winter weather but that was fine by him. He was half-certain one of his numerous friends or those of his sisters would probably find him soon enough. It felt rare that he went anywhere without someone coming to speak with him.

Richard had left his scarf in the stands from when he'd been watching the Slytherin team practice earlier that day. As he headed up there, brushing long flaxen hair from his eyes, he noticed someone alone in the stands. Richard looked down at the pitch, where nothing much was happening. "Expecting something, Bixby?" he asked, still vaguely looking for his scarf.

"No, I'm just hanging out after a good round of practicing privately," Wally replied with a smile. He observed the flaxen haired Slytherin for a moment, realizing that it looked like he was looking for something specific. "Looking for something?"

Like many members of their Houses, Richard could not help but feel a vague tingle of rivalry (though this was more on Urquart's behalf), but he was not someone who made enemies when animosity had not already been established. Indeed he found it much more useful to establish alliances.

"Mm. Lost my scarf", he replied, glancing briefly up at the much taller boy before resuming his search. "I don't suppose you've seen it?"

Wallace shook his head when the other asked if he had seen the scarf. "What does it look like?" He kind of assumed Slytherin colours but not everyone wore a scarf in their house colours. Even before the question was out of his mouth, he was up on his feet to help look for the wayward scarf.

"A Slytherin scarf", he replied, dark eyes moving over the backs of seats and down into the footwells. He would be having his scarf thoroughly cleaned when he found it, no matter where he did. For Richard didn't like the idea of his clothing being anywhere unknown to him.

"How's your practice going?" he asked Bixby as they looked. For he was grateful for the help, and could at least offer pleasantries. "I'm not trying to gain insight into your strategies, promise", he added sardonically, reassuring the Gryffindor that there was no spying going on here.

Wallace nodded when Everly told him what kind of scarf it was. He kept his eyes peeled for anything green or silver as he looked around the stands.

"Decent enough," Wally said with a shrug. "I need to work on my turns when I am flying though." He tended to take them too sharp because of how fast he tended to fly. He thought he had seen the scarf and in his haste tripped over one of the seats in the stand. It also was not the scarf so his dignity had suffered for nothing.

Richard gave s vague nod of polite interest, only truly enthusiastic about Quidditch when it was Urquart explaining it to him. But the topic could be interesting in its own right, and the Slytherin might have asked for elaboration had Bixby not then stumbled over one of the seats.

"More graceful in the air, apparently", he observed, leaning one hand on the seat above from Bixby and smiling slightly. His remark was meant in good nature.

He chuckled in response to Everly's words. He was never one to take things people said to heart. There were very few things that could make his blood boil and a light ribbing from another student was not one of them. "My moves on a broom are much better," he agreed. He wasn't one of the best - he did not have talent enough to play professionally - he was painfully aware of that. But he was still more at home on a broom then on land. His new seating position, however, gave him a new vantage point. "I see something green," he informed the other as he reached under some of the seats that were to the side of him. Taking out the scarf, he used his wand to quickly remove the bits of dust that had already been clinging to it.

Richard looked up with interest when the Quidditch player's keen eyes spotted what they sought. "Thank you", he responded, accepting the scarf; not liking the idea that it had been downtrodden beneath a set of seats, but grateful for its return.

"It's a funny thing, isn't it", he observed after a moment, looking down at the green-and-silver scarf in his hand; "House pride, I mean."

Wallace thought for a moment in response to Everly's words. "I suppose so. It can also be a little fun if it doesn't get out of hand." Wallace enjoyed a bit of competition - hence his place on the Quidditch team - but he knew some people could take it too far. With fist fights or just generally being nasty to "rival" houses.

RE: way up high - Richard Everly - July 12, 2022

It was perhaps an odd thing for Richard to say, especially to someone not in his own House. But perhaps it had been on his mind, and the Slytherin scarf he'd been reunited with had triggered him to comment.

Bixby's response was interesting. "Have you seen House pride get out of hand?" he asked curiously, wondering where he drew the line. And how it compared to Richard's line.

RE: way up high - Wallace Bixby - July 24, 2022

"A few times. People being overly nasty, fist fights and the like," Wallace answered. "I feel like for a house to truly best each other, they should show it in the fight for the house cup: skills, intelligence and all that." Did Everly understand what he was trying to express? He hoped so.

RE: way up high - Richard Everly - July 29, 2022

"Fist fights", he repeated with a slight sneer of disapproval. It was so brazen and foolish to fight with one's fists -- and, frankly, rather too muggle-like too. He very much agreed with Bixby that there were better ways to prove oneself.

"Do you know of anyone who's been fighting like that?" he asked curiously, alert to any such gossip.

RE: way up high - Wallace Bixby - August 15, 2022

"Indeed," he confirmed as Everly repeated his words. As for people who had actually been fist fighting? Quite a few but that was likely a given considering they were all hormonal teenagers in close quarters. "A Slytherin and a Gryffindor from second year got into it the other day," he informed the other with a slight laugh.

Richard would've rolled his eyes if it weren't ungraceful to do so. Second Years. "Children", he replied with evident disapproval. Bixby and he had plenty of differences, but about this they agreed; there were far better ways to settle differences than fisticuffs. "And what was the disagreement -- just the honour of their Houses?"
