Thursday, Sept. 10 1874 Noticed Alice Chatham for the very first time.  He was going out with another girl who decided to break up with him because his attention was focused on Alice a little more than on her.

Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1874 He wanted a way to get even and make him feel good about himself, so he spent a very nice night with Alice.  He wanted to let other people know he was spending the evening with Alice, but he couldn’t.  It would ruin his reputation and hurt the family publishing business.  He couldn’t do that!  But he really wanted the girl who dumped him know that he was seeing a girl at least two years younger than she was.

June 1875 Aidan graduates from Hogwarts.

Thursday, July 15, 1875 An owl announces the birth of his only son, Addison Benjamin Chatham.

Monday, August 16, 1875.  Aidan starts working at the McLoughlin Publishing Company.

Friday, Dec. 23, 1875 He sends Alice 100 galleons.  He sends 100 galleons every Christmas to help Alice take care of Addison, but he refuses to have anything to do with the boy personally.

Monday, Jan. 8, 1877 Aidan realizes he also likes men. The boy he can’t take his eyes off of is Seimon Pendry, a Hufflepuff, two years his elder. Apparently, he likes muscular boys with curly blonde hair.

Friday, November 13, 1885 Someone buys the McLoughlin Publishing Company, as he understands it.  In reality, it is gambled and lost in a poker game.

Friday, November 27, 1885  Aidan is summarily fired.

Monday, December 14, 1885 Aidan starts working at the Floo Network Authority Office at the Ministry of Magic.

Monday, March 16, 1891 Aiden becomes the head of the office.

Tuesday, May 5, 1891 Aiden finds an investor, named Don Juan Dempsey, who he believes helps him buy back the McLoughlin Publishing Company.  In reality, he is the man who won the company in the poker game.

Friday, June 5, 1891 An application for an Addison Benjamin Chatham comes across Aidan’s desk.  He tries to put it off for a week, but with the Head of the Department of Magical Transportation repeatedly asking about it, he can’t find any reason to deny Addison Chatham employment at the Floo Network Office.  He asks questions about the application and finds out that the boy asked for the office himself.  Does he know that Aidan’s his father?  Will he be nice or not?  He has no choice but to allow the boy’s employment.

Monday, June 15, 1891 Aidan starts work in the Floo Network Authority office.  Aidan regularly reprimands the boy about his tardiness and his work ethic.  His work is all right, but it could be a lot better.  Aidan is very tough on him.

August 1891.  He tries to help Addison out with unique assignments, hoping that he will want to get out of his department as soon as possible, but Addison stays for some reason.  Aidan still worries about what Addison has in his mind to do if he knows Aidan is his father, he must be planning some kind of diabolical revenge on him! He definitely treats him like if he was.  But he tries to rationalize that as just good mentoring.

Dec. 1891. He stops sending Alice any money.

Personality: Aidan has always been a strict boss.  When he worked at the family publishing company, he was the head of the binding department.  He couldn’t stand people who were tardy all the time.  He expected people to be at work on time and ready to work.  He wants people to be good workers and treats them the way he was treated when he was a young worker, which meant he treated his employees very tough.  He doesn’t tolerate stupid people at all.  He is impatient with fools.  He leaves Addison to explain things to people if they for some reason don’t understand what he has already explained to them.

He likes to eat and drink out after work.  He can always be found at the Leaky Cauldron after work and staying there until late-ish. He brings matters from work with him if there are things he still needs to check over or read.  He feels he can work better at the pub than at his office, perhaps it’s because of Addison.

He's mostly friendly with the people at the pub.  He’s cordial to people at the ministry.  He has some friends there, but not many, and he’s dismayed to realize that most of his friends have worked their way up or out of the ministry.  Either way, Aidan is sure they’re happy wherever they are now.  He’s happy where he is.  He was actually quite surprised to be able to get the job of the department head, but really, no one else wanted the job.

Other: In his heart, he wishes he could have been there for Addison as he grew up, knowing that a kid needs both his parents.  But he just didn’t think he had it in him to be a father and help Alice take care of a little boy.  He hoped that sending her money every Christmas would’ve helped provide for him without making Alice have to get a job and work.

Sample Roleplay Post: Aidan stared at the piece of paper on his desk.  He knew this day might happen, but he had hoped it wouldn’t.  Not everybody wanted to work at the Ministry of Magic, so he didn’t think it would. Damn it! But it did.  Now what the hell was he going to do?

Addison Chatham.  The name was definitely familiar to him.  Chatham!  Of course, Alice.  It had to be the boy!  He would like it to be just coincidence, but it couldn’t be.  Bad news always came with good news.  He had just got back his family’s publishing company and now Addison Chatham wanted to work in his office.  Why?  Why did this boy -- his son -- have to apply for a job in his office?  Did he know that Aidan was his father?  Was that why he chose his office particularly?  Most Hogwarts graduates received the job they asked for depending on their grades.

He snatched the application up and held back his temptation to just rip it up and burn it with a fire spell.  He almost took the top drawer out of the desk, he pulled it out with such strength, anger threatening to destroy the application.  He put it in the drawer and closed it, hoping he didn’t have to open it again.  He hoped to just forget about it.

Every day when he sat at the desk, he remembered the application was in the drawer.  It was as if it was reminding him of its presence somehow.  It was just like that Edgar Allan Poe tale which was published in England in 1843, “The Tell-Tale Heart.”  No one would know that he destroyed it if he did.  Really, it was just a spell away from being destroyed, but he couldn’t do it.

On Thursday, the head of the department of transportation himself called him to ask what he had done with the boy’s application?  He hadn’t heard anything from his secretary about it and was wondering what the trouble was.  It wasn’t like Aidan to forget something as important as an student’s application for employment.  Aidan lied and said he was going to make a decision by Friday.  That wasn’t good enough, the minister said, he needed a reply today.  Now.  Aidan didn’t know why the head of the department was personally involved in a personnel issue, but had absolutely no choice to approve Addison Chatham’s employment in his office.

Addison started working in the office on Monday, June 15, 1891.  As much as he wanted to dislike the boy, he couldn’t.  He might be tardy and absentminded, but his enthusiasm for the job and for his work was amazing.  It was exactly what he said he always wanted in an employee.  But he didn’t understand it.  Didn’t the boy find the office boring as hell?  Didn’t he want to transfer out as soon as possible?  Did he know Aidan was indeed his father?  Was that what kept him in the office?  And if it was, why the hell didn’t he say something to Aidan about it?

Aidan felt like the couldn’t take the torment of his secret any longer, but he couldn’t tell him that.  He just couldn’t!  He might ruin him at the ministry!  All his hard work to get to the head of a department only to have his son and the fact that he had a son out of wedlock ruin him.  Yes, he supposed he could go and work at the publishing company.  His family’s company, though it was under some other stupid name now.

He had hoped he could do what he liked with it once he got it, but the money wasn’t all his.  He had an investor who invested most of the money for it.  He just needed Aidan because he didn’t know a thing about publishing.  The McLoughlin name was well known in publishing.  And he was glad he was able to buy the company back for him.  They needed one another, but Aidan and he didn’t agree on how to run the company or what kinds of books were acceptable to publish.
Aidan hated having his head somewhere other than in the office.  He was becoming muddleheaded just like his employee, his son, his boy.  What the hell would he do? Should he quit from the ministry and work at the publishing company full time?  Was this a sign that he should?  But he wanted to get to know his son!
