RE: water dryads - Clue Leverett - May 1, 2020

"We only have four"... despite not being a laughing type (until becoming friends with Narcissus, anyway), this was so surprising that Clue could not help but laugh. "Only four...?" he sniggered, "yes, that will be odd. I'm not coming round unless you have at least twelve."

Narcissus glanced over in mild surprise when Clue laughed. The sound was so rare that it always surprised him a bit. He grinned in response to Clue's words, supposing that even four was a lot to Clue. "Very amusing - I wonder if I will ever be so wealthy as to have twelve servants? I can't imagine it." And if he couldn't, it was probably even harder for Clue to.

Clue looked at him steadily, laughter fading as quickly as it had emerged. "Do you want twelve servants?" he asked thoughtfully. Come to think of it, they hadn't talked much about ambitions and possibilities beyond school.

Narcissus considered Clue's question seriously before answering. "No. I don't think I would be comfortable having that many people underfoot." He was part-veela and with that came a certain love for attention. But he also liked his own space for the most part. "Besides, I'm comfortable where I am now.. wealthily speaking."

RE: water dryads - Clue Leverett - May 1, 2020

Clue couldn't imagine any of this. What it would be like to have any people at all, let alone those that were "underfoot". What it would be like to be comfortable with wealth at any level. Clue had bought his first ever piece of new clothing just last month in Hogsmede.

"Fair enough", he responded, and leaned his platinum head on the tree again, gazing up at the sky and wondering about all of these things. When you have a friend, the concept of difference really starts to matter.

Being somewhat used to Clue's way of sometimes being a little abrupt, Narcissus didn't think too much of it. Instead, his thoughts drifted to an entirely different matter. "This year we'll be able to go to the coming out ball since fifth to seventh years get to attend. Will you be going there? I have already had at least three girls ask to reserve a dance - any more and I won't have time for anything else! Starvation on the dance floor."

RE: water dryads - Clue Leverett - May 4, 2020

Clue visibly cringed at the concept of going to a dance. He had never attended anything like that in his life; he'd only ever heard about such events. "Oh, no, I don't go to dances", he clarified, as if it really needed to be said.

At the news of Narcissus' preemptive successes, the younger Slytherin looked at him. "Do you think you'll find a fiancée there?" He was only half-joking.

RE: water dryads - Narcissus Laurent - May 5, 2020

Narcissus felt strangely disappointed that Clue wouldn't be going. Bu then he was taken so by surprise by Clue's question that he had to laugh a bit. "No! Of course not. I'm not old enough to be married until I am at least twenty-six." That was how it worked in society, after all. A young man had to be at least in his late twenties to be taken seriously as husband material. "What would I need one for anyway?"

RE: water dryads - Clue Leverett - May 5, 2020

Clue was sure that society's rules and expectations had been gone over in some class or speech or other, but he was in the habit of blocking out things that did not apply to him. So the "twenty-six" rule came as a surprise, as girls seem to be married off when they were practically children. That was a very icky thought that didn't bear much thinking about.

"I didn't say wife, I said fiancée", he reminded his friend. Clue was at least aware that younger men and boys got betrothed, if not full-on wed. "And I don't know why men get them", he added. "At a guess, I'd say to produce children."

"Why, Clue," Narcissus said in faux sadness. "I had no idea you were so eager to pawn me off on a young lady. Is my company really so tiresome?" He laughed to show that he was in jest before standing up and dusting himself off. "It really is a shame that it isn't quite swimming weather, the day had become surprisingly warm."

RE: water dryads - Clue Leverett - May 6, 2020

Clue watched Narcissus get nonchalantly to his feet and once more render the image of bare muscles glistening in droplets of lake water — Clue looked up at him, chewing thoughtfully at a fingernail. Why must he cut such a Godly figure, and why must Clue feel this way about him?

The pale Slytherin got to his feet as well, bringing his book and Winter cloak with him. The day was definitely getting warmer. "We could walk around the lake? It'll be cooler out there."

RE: water dryads - Narcissus Laurent - May 6, 2020

Narcissus grinned in response to Clue's suggestion. "Yes, let's do that," he said in agreement. "Hopefully we don't run into more idiots." He was used to it by now but he would very much like to enjoy some time without having to put bullies in their place. Especially since he could think of several better uses of everyones time, especially his own.

RE: water dryads - Clue Leverett - May 6, 2020

Hands in his pockets, book tucked under one arm and cloak folded under the other, Clue led the way along the lakeside. His mind was still a little too... preoccupied to strike up conversation. Not that Clue was the type to strike up conversation anyway.

RE: water dryads - Narcissus Laurent - May 7, 2020

Clue seemed to be lost in thought and Narcissus went along with silently walking along the shoreline for a while. After a few moments however, he glanced over at the boy and began walking backwards so that he could be facing him while still on the move. "A knut for your thoughts?" He asked curiously.

RE: water dryads - Clue Leverett - May 7, 2020

Quietly sullen and perplexed, Clue continued with Narcissus along the bank, pausing only to return his book and cloak to his satchel so he had less to carry. The heaviest things he carried were psychological.

Just before they hit the stretch of bank that was mercifully free of students, they passed two young witches heading back towards the castle. The girls looked longingly at Narcissus, one of them stifling a giggle. Clue stared at them blankly. When they had passed, whim struck Clue and he decided to grab his friend's wrist and lead him suddenly behind the nearest tree — so that when the girls looked back over their shoulders to stare at him some more they wouldn't have the privilege.

"It's that", explained Clue scathingly, gesturing with his head back at the now-departed girls. He looked up at Narcissus as if intending to pin him to the tree with a cold glare alone. "It's them. Girls in general. Always staring at you."

RE: water dryads - Narcissus Laurent - May 8, 2020

Narcissus didn't take much notice of the girls as they walked by them, more focused on picking up a couple of pebbles with the idle thought of skipping them on the lake. But the next thing  he knew Clue was grabbing his wrist and leading him behind a tree. His brows knitted together in confusion.

"That?" He parroted cluelessly before following Clue's gesture and looking at the girls. Okay so why did Clue seem so... angry? If Narcissus didn't know any better, he would say that his friend was jealous. The notion had the curious urge to kiss Clue whispering through his system but he shook the thought off. Doing that out here where anyone could possibly see would most certainly lead to them both being expelled - if not jailed - and Clue wouldn't thank him for that, Narcissus knew. Nor did Narcissus relish trying to get through life without OWLs.

"Well, what am I supposed to do about that? Wear a potato sack? Just ignore them like I do - most of the time I don't even notice them." Especially when I'm with you, whispered through his mind. More than a little disconcerted with his own swirling, odd thoughts he moved to put a good amount of space between them. "I think I'm going to head back to the common room."
