RE: The Baudelaire case: The arrest - Arthur McPadraic - March 24, 2019

The coffee cup in the middle of the forest was a strange sight. But Arthur waited there, checking his watch and checking the suspect alternately to make sure the spell did not wear off. The only thing that moved were her eyes. He noticed from their movement that she was trying the resist, but the spell kept her frozen.

Suddenly, Arthur put his wand and pocket watch away, grabbed her wrist, grabbed the cup, and the next moment they were sucked away, spinning, and landed in the atrium of the Ministry. Security guards came over to him instantly when they saw the stunned woman. "Take her to one of the cells, and keep her under the strictest surveillance. I want her brought in for questioning at nine tomorrow morning." The security guards nodded and one of them took his wand. Arthur watched her body float away ahead of him.

RE: The Baudelaire case: The arrest - Galina - April 15, 2019

Something had caught the man's attention. Galina's eyes strained to see what it was, what lay on the ground that preoccupied him. A cup. The man had to be deranged. But as his hand reached for the cup and picked it up Galina no longer had the time to question it. Her insides twisted and turned painfully and the sensation of being folded and unfolded, twisted like a wet piece of laundry to be dried distracted her.

Relief came at the same time that she was greeted by a new sight. They were no longer in the forest. Instead they stood in the middle of a bustling building, men swarming to converge on them. She tried again to fight her bonds to no avail, the invisible strength that held her lasted still. As if she were nothing more than a piece furniture she was led off by another man. Her keen ears trying to keep track of each word said, making up for her inability to see beyond what was directly in front of her.

The man led her before him, down through corridors and stairwells. Each one danker and darker than the last. It was as if they descended into a tomb, it might as well have been one. There was only one way for this story to end. Galina had escaped such a fate long ago, but it appeared that fate always caught up to you. In less then half an hour it appeared that Galina's had done just that.

At last she was thrown into a room, the invisible bonds releasing. The sudden ability to move her limbs had Galina stumbling forward, tripping over the cot in the room and landing on the cot. Her agility all but gone with the force of having fought against her bonds rendering her as clumsy as a newborn colt. As soon as her bearings were about her Galina turned to survey her tomb. It was no bigger than the height of a man in every direction with a chamber pot and cot the only decorations for the bleak and dim room. Perhaps more spacious then a tomb, but no less a tomb buried deep in the ground, then the ones in the cemetery she would have been buried in. Galina righted herself and settled onto the cot to face fate with the decorum and poise she had always expected of herself.
