RE: Hide and Seek -
Rufus Bixby - June 27, 2018
Ideal was one word for it, Rufus thought grimly. "
I just worry about you." Rufus admitted to her objection. "
Ideal or not." His tone was gentle although he almost felt an echo of their last argument, the one that had them both thinking things were gone for several months. Perhaps they'd need to talk about that, clear it up. They hadn't had the chance to, he'd intended for them too, but they hadn't. Did she think he wouldn't want her? The thought alone made him nervous. Surely she trusted his word, knew how much she meant to him?
But there was a silver lining to this, Fortuna reminded him. A chance to truly be able to put into motions all their hopes as actions. He smiled, "
And I will be able to see you more often." He told her gently, squeezing her arm against him. He didn't want her to have to worry about anything and while he still wasn't entirely happy with the situation he felt certain that he might be able to make captain which would quell his own concerns of their future. "
Both of which I would take as a good thing. Even if there is some worry mixed in." He chose not to comment that it might be awhile before they heard from her father.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Fortuna Bixby - June 27, 2018
The squeeze he gave Tuni's arm was a reassurance that she very much needed. She did believe everything told her but it was hard to ignore worries about other things. She was a woman, after all, and her mind quickly picked up any negative possibilities from time to time. But, he had a way of easily calming her worries even if it was just as simple as a squeeze of her arm.
Nodding, she smiled when he talked about how they could see each other more as well. "I'm glad for that," she answered honestly, "Who knows how long the fog will last and I'm not sure I would have survived with letters as our only means of communication." She almost shuddered at the thought. If she had to wait months for another kiss from him, she'd have gone crazy.
"You needn't worry too much about me," she added, giving his an arm a squeeze of her own, "I'm quite resilient myself."
RE: Hide and Seek -
Rufus Bixby - June 27, 2018
How long would the fog last? No one seemed to know, but now they were in a position to worry about it. More so than Rufus had already been worrying, that was, especially now that Fortuna was stranded in London. But she was here, beside him, beyond the letters and chance encounters that had defined them so far. "
I don't believe I would have survived either." Rufus couldn't help but chuckle as he led them around another corner.
"
I know." He told her seriously, looking down at her. He hardly doubted Fortuna's resiliency, but it didn't mean he wouldn't worry about her.
Finally the shape of the boarding house, his temporary home, appeared at the end of the street. He steered Fortuna that direction. "
Here we are. Mister Pettigrew has given us rooms here. It's quite respectable. I assure you." He added this for the benefit of the maid following them, looking back at her with a reassuring smile. "
If you don't mind, I think we ought to get you off the street. I'll ask around to see if there might be a female boarder who you can stay with." He really was trying to do everything by the book, he didn't want Mr. Lockhart to give him any reasons to not court his daughter and wasn't sure if her maid would say something or not. He led the two ladies up the steps and opened the door to the quaint little place that had become his new home. Down a hall and up some stairs, so far so good, no one had spotted them. They traveled in silence, an unspoken agreement not to attract attention, until he reached his door on the third and topmost floor and he let the two young ladies into his quarters, neglecting to voice that these were his rooms.

Fortuna Bixby - June 27, 2018
At least he didn't doubt her. That would have been an issue with Tuni but surely he knew that. In the time they'd been acquainted, she'd made it quite clear that she was a strong woman with a sound mind. She certainly wasn't to be taken lightly even if others may try to do so thanks to her small stature. None of that really mattered anymore though and she'd never really cared much what others had thought. Her smile did fall some, however, at the mention of finding a female boarder for them to stay with. That sounded..awful.
There wasn't a chance to say anything, however, before he showed them to his quarters. It was the first time that Tuni let go of him and found herself stepping inside to look around. Eyes widened slightly as she looked about, realizing that it was actually is bedroom. She felt her cheeks flush at the realization but she didn't say anything about it. Instead, she promptly sat back in a chair in the room and rested her head back realizing just how weary she felt after everything.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Rufus Bixby - June 27, 2018
Rufus felt terrible for bringing Fortuna and her maid to his room, but he couldn't think of a better option. At the moment it had seemed like the reasonable thing, the fewer people who saw Fortuna the better, he had figured. But the blush on both ladies cheeks had him second guessing himself.
Hoping to ease the situation, Rufus directed them to the notable things that were not - namely - his bed. "
There's a bathroom down the hall, Tommy and I were lucky to have one so close. I thought we might have an outhouse." He explained, attempting to hide his nerves now that he had gotten them out of immediate danger and placed them in a rather awkward situation. "
There are some Quality Quidditch Supply employees downstairs that Mister Pettigrew had moved here as well. They seem nice enough. Most of the team is on this floor though, at least those that opted to come." Not everyone had, understandably, but most had.
Rufus was grateful that Fortuna had taken a seat, he gestured that her maid should also feel as if she could sit. "
I can make you both some tea? I may have some biscuits around here as well." He offered, his mother had sent him with a small basket of baked goods, of which he was quite grateful. He'd never have thought to back such things from his own Hogsmeade apartment.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Fortuna Bixby - June 27, 2018
Tuni had closed her eyes after lounging back in the chair. Truly, it was highly improper but she was exhausted. She nodded where appropriate, however, as she listened to Rufus explain the details of the place. It wasn't until she heard her maid clear her throat that she cracked an eye opened and looked up to her. The two had been together for quite some time, Eliza being her maid of choice for her excursions, that they could have conversations at times without even saying a word. Eliza was fidgeting more than usual and Tuni was quite certain she knew what it meant but the other woman was giving her a look that clearly told her to be on her best behavior. Tuni smirked instead, causing Eliza to roll her eyes before excusing herself to the bathroom.
Tuni was out of her chair in an instant and closed the distance between her and Rufus almost as fast. "Maybe later," she said quickly before grasping his shirt and standing on her tiptoes to kiss him.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Rufus Bixby - June 27, 2018
Rufus had barely mentioned the bathing room when the maid excused herself to visit it. Fortuna's eyes were shut in the chair and Rufus had only the barest of moments to worry over her before the door clicked shut and Fortuna moved from her seat. He had been worried about her response to the whole situation but she had almost launched herself into his arms. It was so natural for him to wrap them around her, hugging her close, and answering her kiss by deepening it. The worry shrugged off and he found himself sharing her sentiments exactly, the worry and anxiety mixing with relief that she was okay as he tried to tell her through a very non chaste kiss that everything was going to be okay.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Thomas Tilcott - June 27, 2018
Ah, London. The land of opportunities, chimney sweeps and Tommy’s most favourite of all: casinos. He missed his Hogsmeade apartment though London really was beginning to grow on him. It had a certain allure to it that the Chaser found most intriguing.
Of course, he’d visited London before. He’d gone to Diagon Alley on more than one occasion but hadn’t really ever thought of wondering past that magical enchanted wall opening the entrance into the muggle world. But he had no training to do and no plans for the day so, pulling on the most muggle-looking clothes he could find (he’d borrowed a few items from Rufus for good measure), Thomas Tilcott wandered into the great unknown (not before changing up a couple of galleons): Muggle London.
And, true to Tommy’s form, he found a casino and it was weird. Where were the house elves? The flying dice? What on earth were these games they were playing? Thomas, dumbfounded, sat by a roulette table and it took all of his power to not take out his wand. He knew that would be against the law (though it would be funny he thought).
“The ball will land on a number!” He exclaimed and was met with some laughter. He wasn’t wrong, technically speaking. He lost some, he won some. But mostly he lost a lot. And, a little dissuaded by the weird and not-so-wonderful casino was now sauntering back from, Thomas walked back to his home to whine to Rufus.
As he entered, there was a distinct smell of something that which he wasn’t familiar. Shrugging it off, Thomas wandered into their room, “Oi, Bixby, Muggle casino-”” He looked up and stopped in his tracks, “Bixby, there’s a woman on your face.”
Was this her?
RE: Hide and Seek -
Rufus Bixby - June 27, 2018
Rufus hadn't heard the door open. Which really wasn't a good thing, seeing as he was quite sure that Fortuna wouldn't want her maid walking in on such a scene, but he wasn't exactly worried about it with the way Fortuna was kissing him back. That was until Tommy's loud voice startled Rufus.
Shit!
Automatically Rufus's grip on Fortuna tightened imperceptibly as he looked at his friend, in the same moment an unconscious part of himself had pushed Fortuna slightly behind him. As if that would protect her from Tommy's notice. At least he'd returned his features to normal as they had arrived back at the room, Tommy wouldn't have let that go either. "
Uh - hello Tommy." Rufus said lamely. "
This is Miss Lockhart, she's rather in a pickle, and needed some help." Rufus started to explain. Really there was no way to make this look any better. Not the way he'd wanted to introduce his best friend to her. Or her to him for that matter.
"
She's stranded in London because of the fog and doesn't have a place to stay for the night, so I thought..." To be honest Rufus was flushed enough that he wasn't sure what he had thought.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Fortuna Bixby - June 27, 2018
Well. She had not expected that. The kiss, yes. The kiss had been glorious. Hearing another man's voice however, had not. The kiss was ended abruptly and Tuni found herself almost being shuffled behind Rufus. She didn't mind, really. She was beyond embarrassed and her cheeks were a vibrant shade of red as she brought a hand up to touch already swollen lips. She listened quietly as Rufus explained the situation but when he started to mention his thoughts, an idea came to her.
"And he thought that we might be able to stay here for the night," she said as she peeked out from behind him, smiling at the other man, "Just until other arrangements can be made." Eliza came up behind the other man then, clearing her throat to make it known she was there. "We should be out of your hair by tomorrow afternoon," she said quickly and got a raised brow sort of look from her maid at that.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Thomas Tilcott - June 27, 2018
Flabbergasted, Thomas shook his head with faux-shocked wide eyes (almost mockingly) as he listened to their excuses. Nodding with each word, Thomas began to cautiously move around the two before he was standing next to Fortuna. He shook his head, crossed his arms, and quietly let out a ‘tsk’.
Then, he moved back to Rufus and shook his head even more, letting out an even louder ‘tsk’.
This was going to be fun.
“So let me get this straight,” Thomas straightened himself up and began speaking with the most serious, stern voice he could muster, “You bring a woman into our house so she can sleep in our room whilst I sleep?” He shook his head once more and ‘tsk’d even louder, “You expect me to sleep whilst you and ‘er ‘ave a stitch?” He shook his head though it was plain as day he was struggling to keep a straight face.
Truth be told, he really didn’t mind. Not at all. He just really enjoyed winding Rufus up. Thomas moved his head to look past Rufus’s shoulders and toward Fortuna, “I’m sorry you ‘ave to see this,” Thomas bit his lip, trying not to laugh, “Mr Bixby usually let’s.. let’s me know when…” He exhaled and then inhaled deeply, closing his eyes.
Well, this was hard. He Thomas was a terrible liar.
“Oh, I can’t do this,” Thomas said before holding out his hand, “Names Tilcott. The better chaser.”
RE: Hide and Seek -
Rufus Bixby - June 27, 2018
Fortuna interjected, which Rufus was relieved by until she stated it in such a way that Tommy could jump at. After over a decade of friendship and Rufus knew some things that would just give Tommy ammunition. So he mentally objected to her explanation. That hadn't exactly been Rufus's plan, he hadn't planned on Fortuna staying in their room.
Behind Tommy the maid slipped in, as if this situation could get any worse for Fortuna. It distracted Rufus from his friend long enough for Tommy to get around him and approach Fortuna himself.
It took a lot to make Rufus flush but the onslaught of words did just that. Tommy knew it wasn't like that with Fortuna, he'd forced Rufus to admit to it after the Gala. But the outrage on his friend's face and the thought of Fortuna's embarrassment had Rufus forgetting the rationality of the friendship built on teasing and baiting that had defined their young years. He almost growled at Tommy, "
It's not like that Tommy -" But before he could go further Tommy had launched into some absurd insinuation that hit just a bit too close to home for Rufus. After all their fight had been about a very similar subject. Why did people keep painting Rufus into some kind of dandy. He'd throttle Tommy for it, and likely would have to if he hadn't started to laugh and then proceeded to introduce himself to Fortunna.
Rufus let out a sigh of relief and shook his head at Tommy. "
He only thinks he's the better chaser. I just let him live with that delusion." He wasn't done being pissed at Tommy, but really having it out with Tommy in front of the ladies was hardly a better idea.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Fortuna Bixby - June 27, 2018
Tuni stared wide eyed at the man deemed Rufus's best friend. Not really sure what to even thing. She was too embarrassed to even realize the other man was clearly pulling a prank of sorts and trying to put on airs. She could feel the tension between Rufus and the other man though and was honestly quite surprised when a fist didn't go flying. And then...the man was laughing. She glanced up to see Eliza almost on the verge of laughter as well.
"Well.." she started, at a loss for words, "It's a pleasure then I guess Mr. Tilcott." She looked warily up to Rufus before accepting the man's hand and giving it a firm shake. "Though I have watched you both play," she started to say, a smirk tugging at her lips, "And while your aim is quite well Mr. Tilcott, I think Rufus has you beat on agility."
RE: Hide and Seek -
Thomas Tilcott - June 27, 2018
Okay, see, now he did not like this girl. How dare she.
“Woah, woah. ‘old the merlin’s arse on a stick of butter up.” He huffed, suddenly turning rather defensive (though still rather playful in tone), “I ‘ave better stats. I’m faster on a broom, I throw further, and I’m damned bloody skilful when it comes to lookin’ good.” He nodded and his mind took him back to one of his games last year where he was able to score twice within fifteen seconds when he threw a quaffle into the hoop, jumped over the hoop as the broom sailed through it, landed on his broom, grabbed the quaffle, tossed it in the air, chased it and then hit it back down into the hoop a second time.
The crowd went wild at that one, “But ‘e is good at droppin’ the quaffle.”
He knew Rufus was actually better at Thomas on the agility front; it was something Thomas was quite envious off. Rufus had a knack for reacting quickly and spinning almost 180 degrees on his broom without so much as breaking a sweat. Thomas knew his strengths and where he did excel, but Rufus had him beat on his reactions and agility. He wasn’t going to admit that, though.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Rufus Bixby - June 27, 2018
After a moment's pause and looking up at Rufus as if wondering if everything really were okay, Fortuna greeted Tommy. Even if the man didn't deserve the pleasantries at that point. At least her maid looked amused by the scene in front of her. Fortuna, however, took his side. That was his (
his!) girl! He almost laughed at the look on Tommy's face. Rather like some inflated fish gasping for water.
Rufus glared at Tommy for his language in front of the ladies, but Fortuna didn't seem terribly shocked. "
Sure you are, Tommy." Rufus's tone clearly indicated that he didn't believe Tommy for a second. Typically he would have compared Tommy to a troll or a giant, but, well he kind of needed Tommy's help - and his good side.
"
But enough about your skills, think you could help us out?" Maybe Tommy had a better suggestion after all.
RE: Hide and Seek -
Fortuna Bixby - June 27, 2018
Tuni was fully smirking as she clearly offended Mr. Tilcott. She may be a pretty brunette but she was smart and she knew Quidditch. Her brother played after all. And, honestly, she probably knew the technicalities of the sport better than them. She wasn't going to say that though. It wouldn't do any good to anger the man who could potential make it harder for her to spend extra time with Rufus.
"We won't be a bother," she said, feeling as if she needed to help on that front so that he would help them out.
