Tears leaked from the corners of her eyes. This wasn't normal, she supposed, but it was the more mature response. This was sad news, it was also, as Alice had said, already decided. It wasn't like any amount of arguing or whining was going to change it. This wasn't a fight with Cameron she thought she could "win," it didn't need to be a fight at all.

"I think you'll be really good at that." Sloane hiccoughed as tears fell in earnest. "I hate it, but you'll do well with it, as usual." She added glumly, wiping away tears with her thumbs as if blinking them back would get them to stop.

She stopped yanking on the thread to finally look over at Sloane. Alice felt such gratitude for her friend at that moment that she forgot all about their tension and awkwardness. For once, someone was there to simply comfort her. To agree that the situation was awful and not force some solution that wouldn't help matters.

"I'm going to miss you so much." Alice was sniffling now. "Thank you for not being angry with me."

"Angry at the world is just my mode of operation these days." Sloane muttered through a shuddering breath. "But never mad at you." She followed up with a sniffle. "I just don't know what I'm going to do without you." That much was true. They hadn't had an easy couple of years, but Sloane knew that despite it all, she could count on Alice and now she wouldn't be here.

"Will you write? Can I see you this summer and on weekends?" Contact couldn't just stop altogether. There was no way she could allow that. Sloane was grasping at straws but it was all she had.

"We can write daily if you need," Alice answered with a tearful half-smile. "And we'll arrange as many visits as we can. I'm not sure which hospital I'll be working for yet, but if it's Hogsmeade I'll be in town more often." She didn't mention that she rather hoped to work in London due to the level of freedom that came with the city. To do so at present felt rather like a betrayal. "Besides, you'll be busy with the internship this summer and then with classes next year. There won't be time to miss me."

"Good." Sloane pouted, sniffling and wondering just how red her face was after the upset. Slowly she slid from her bed and over to Alice's to lean into her friend's shoulder. "I can send you my notes from classes if you want to keep up with things." She offered quietly, knowing that was probably not super helpful, but maybe she could learn to take better notes just for this.

"I don't want this to end our friendship." She admitted quietly, knowing that time and distance from one another would certainly doom them, unless she was stubborn about it.
