Introducing Professor Bowen - Isla Bowen - February 5, 2025

Introducing Professor Bowen

31 || MCHB || Charms Professor || Animagus || she/her

intellectual - formal - trustworthy - stern - dedicated

Personal life:

  • Old friends: She was a Slytherin that graduated Hogwarts as a prefect and head girl in 1882. She began school as a bit of a “mean girl” according to her brothers but later this realised itself as academic determination and stubbornness so she would have gotten on with other hard working students.

She is part of the Lochrin family so would have links perhaps to anyone else who has interacted with them.

  • Current: She is a nice person but not a very social person who would most likely have a social circle gained from her academic peers or parents if children that she has tutored over the years.

I like to think that she will be respected and liked by students but she hasn't been there long enough to determine that yet. Hardworking students will potentially get on with her, lazy ones will find her strict.

She is a closeted feminist who tends to keep things to herself to protect her own station. She is likely quite impressed by woman who can be more open with it but they might not appreciate her own manner so a manner of loose friendship there is possible.

Professional life:

Anyone at Hogwarts or Flint would be a potential professional friend and many are similar age (mostly the school year above her) she is acquainted with Professor Foxwood via work at Flint and he also helped support her application to Hogwarts. She only started working as a professor in 1894, how your character feels about a woman taking an important core subject is of course up to you but I'm open to a bit of back and forth about that, she is ready to impress.

She has tutored various pupils over the years part time so some of the students at Hogwarts may know her from previous private lessons. Probably anyone to a maximum age of eighteen if from WC or MC backgrounds or a bit younger if UC as she started tutoring more wealthy students a little later.

Romance:

She has been widowed since May 1888 so is available in the eyes of society but it is not a priority for her so she isn't looking. Her marriage wasn't a great time in her life compared to her current situation so she is in no rush to change things again. I would like her to find some emotional connections with people that may or may not lead to full romance.

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Samuel Griffith - February 5, 2025

What a pretty Intro thread! Nice to see her around.

I offer you her colleagues Samuel Griffith and Morrigan Crowley for any sort of thread in the castle!

I'm sure you will see my students Leonard and Rufus in her classes <3

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Henry Berkwood - February 5, 2025

Obviously, Protego is here to be a pain in the butt, but a loving one for what it's worth. :P

She'd also probably know Georgia Quirke who is of a similar age.

And all of my student characters are currently taking her class with varying levels of enthusiasm. Lucy Tatting probably most notably because she's a workaholic interested in Charms probably the most out of my characters. XD

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Millie Potts - February 5, 2025

Hello there, I have Millie. She likes Charms quite a bit.

I also have Charley, she likes feminism and in all the wrong ways as Isla.

I welcome RPed compliments and clash.

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Daffodil Grimstone - February 5, 2025

I have Mason Skeeter, Fiona McCarthy, Ramona Pendergast and Tennyson Halstead at Hogwarts! Neither Gryffindor is so that good at charms idt, but Mo wants to be!

Legit half my roster was +/-2 years of her at school, though no Slytherins!

Bronwyn Moony, Elsie Kirke & Angie Swan stand out as friend options!

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Gus Lissington - February 5, 2025

Gus is a fellow professor and they are the same age, so I think it's safe to say they know each other in some capacity.

Delilah Warbeck is her age, although she was a Gryff. She's also widowed. I'd be down for them being friends, if you'd like.

Cadogan Glynn & Charles Hutton are my students. Cad isn't that great at magic, and Charlie wants to be. I'm sure he tries to show off in class lol

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Isla Bowen - February 6, 2025

Thanks for the replies, I will do all the non students first then a note to all the students together.

Samuel Griffith

I'm looking forward to having her interboth of them, I believe Crowley was a couple of years above her so she might recognise her from school given how striking her features are.

Henry Berkwood

We definately need to do something with the siblings, I'm thinking something like laughter over a misbehaving magical trinket in the shop.

A museum curator like Georgia certainly seems like the sort of person that Isla would have things in common with.

Millie Potts

I don't know if Charley would have sought out tutoring in magic from Isla but that is an in for them to be acquainted.

Daffodil Grimstone

The likes of Mason, a respected teacher with more experience would be looked up to by Isla, not that he's that much older but he is in his 11th year teaching from what I can work out. All three of the educated women you listed fit well. Elsie in particular because of Isla's history as a library archivist and academic curiosity means she is probably snooping around libraries still when she gets chance, looking for some newly published snippet or long forgotten treasure. So would be up for a thread in the library or elsewhere. I think the others are less likely to casually run into each other but would be the sort of people she would maintain friendships with if possible.

Gus Lissington

With so much crossover between the syllabi for the professors I expect close working together. I really enjoyed that crossover you did with Fox and even just referencing each other's lessons adds a lot of depth. From what I know of Gus I think they would get along well.

Deliah would have been the same year as Isla they could be friends. Her widowing was a couple of yeard after Isla's so if you want she would been one of those "it's hard now, I know, but trust me it gets better" friends.

For all the lovely students

Charms is a much more engaging subject with more stuff to get my muse going than my last subjects so I hope to get a young/middle/old student triple thread going on in the next couple of weeks. I want to make sure I do the subject justice so knowing which students are keen is very helpful. She values effort and determination so knowing that the likes Millie, Ramona, Charles and Lucy are the sort she might notice for such things is very helpful.

I can start a thread for Protego/Isla if you like! Backdate to summer maybe?

Yeah go for it Smile

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Daffodil Grimstone - February 6, 2025

Mason's always around and Elsie is part time at the library after the birth of her third, but I have an open thread with a flexible date, or can do something else, just let me know!

That works, I will put her into the thread this afternoon Smile. It's up to you if you want to add a little bit more recognition to her introduction dialogue if its a friend approaching her. I think 25th January is the closest day to the thread atm which is a hogsmeade day so she could be in town chaperoning hotspots for troublemakers like the library.

I'll make the edit, but the Library is in London just an FYI!

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Isla Bowen - February 6, 2025

Oh yeah, I get muddled with all the locations sometimes, good to know Smile

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Gus Lissington - February 6, 2025

I'd love something with gus first i think to get the school life rolling Smile

RE: Introducing Professor Bowen - Cassius Lestrange - February 6, 2025

She was a year below Thomasina Dempsey and a year above Declan Buchanan & Morrigan Selden. Mor here is probably the best option - she's a librarian and does a lot of research.

Kaatjie takes her class!
