I hold my peace, sir? no; No, I will speak as liberal as the north; Let heaven and men and devils, let them all, All, all, cry shame against me, yet I’ll speak.
He has touched my ankle and seen me with my hair down (not intentionally, of course!), so I'm pretty sure I already know what it feels like to be married.Helga Scamander in Helga's Boy Book

Plain but not unappealing, Cordelia is the type of woman that blends into the crowd without earning a second glance from passersby — or at least she would be, if it were not for her tall height for a woman. She was five feet, six inches tall by the time she graduated Hogwarts, and luckily for her, no inches would be added in the years that followed. She has fair skin that scars easily, leaving her with reminders of acne from her youth.

On the bright side, she has long, dark, and generally-pretty hair that would sit in waves if it weren't always pulled up in a tight updo. Her eyes are light eyes as well, and groomed brows. Never having been one for extravagance, her dresses are appropriate for her station but all around plain in appearance. She wields her wand with her right hand.

A mixture of scents that remind her of her own children; her husband's cologne, but in a much more subtle way than one would imagine; and the flowers in the St. Mungo's gift shop.

Unlike some unfortunate people who have their biggest fear visualized, Cordelia's — namely, the fear of isolation and social outcast — is difficult to put into a single image that would actually terrify her. As such, it sticks to an acromantula (which does, indeed, scare her shitless as well).

She cot never conjure one.

Cordelia relies much on muggle means of transportation, especially since finding her home in London. She used to be a much more frequent use of the floo network, though still does so when visiting family or leaving London.

Cordy is heterosexual, though is aware of the existence of same-sex relationships and is surprisingly (given her prudishness on some matters!) not repulsed by the concept. While (obviously) not a virgin, her husband has never been one to frequent their wedding bed, sharing it only when they wish to procreate. As such, she's fairly inexperienced in that department!

Skills & Misc. Info
Cordelia is very adept in charm-work, though her areas of expertise are certainly healing magic and household charms!

She is supportive of her younger sisters' careers, though does often worry what poor influences might come of them.
Cordelia's birth on January 14th, 1860 was the second to take place in the Collins household since the marriage between Huxley and Perepetua Collins, and it was not a very eventful one, either. While the family did not always have what they wanted, they always had what they needed, assuring Cordelia a fairly comfortable childhood. Cordelia was not the baby of the household for too long, as in 1862 her mother gave birth to another daughter, christened Desdemona (soon known as "Dezzie" to the toddler).

Another daughter, Cressida, joined the family in 1866, and soon after Cordelia began her informal education under the instruction of a governess. Always the clever one, it did not take much time or effort for Cordelia to pick up the basics of mathematics, reading, writing, and history, and could frequently be found indulging in the texts plucked off the family's bookshelves. Though always curious, she was never a troublemaker, pestering her governess and parents with questions about the world around her rather than exploring.

It wasn't too soon after that (1868) Cordelia's first sign of magic made an appearance after she accidentally turned a particularly nasty garden gnome to stone. Rather than destroy or re-animate the pesky creature, her father was keen to keep it on display, leaving Cordelia spooked every time she passed its dreadful-looking face. Her biggest fear — and the subject of many nightmares — was it reanimating itself while she slept and attacking her while she was vulnerable. Eventually, the family did rid of it.

In 1869, Cordelia's mother delivered the only boy to come from her second marriage, Florizel Collins, at the advanced age of forty-five. The couple would have no more children afterwards.

Hogwarts: Intro Years
During the summer of 1871, Cordelia, as expected, receives her Hogwarts letter and goes shopping in Diagon Alley. Apart from her books, robes, and wand, she also purchases a feline companion after the shopkeeper informs her no other customers wished to take her because of her blindness. With a large heart and a desire to fix what is broken, Cordelia brings home the cat — who she names Cecil, meaning "blind" — with the hope that one day she will be able to cure him of his impediment.

Hogwarts begins in September of 1871, and Cordelia finds herself under the Sorting Hat for a solid minute before it declares that she is best-suited for Ravenclaw. Initially intimidated by the house's reputation for intellect and cleverness, Cordelia soon finds that it is a good fit — the riddles, she believes, become easier as the year comes by, and soon she's expanded her mind to where they're not too difficult to solve.

While not notably skilled in one class more than others, she does enjoy her Charms class. While her abilities are limited by her age, she imagines a future where she is able to create her own charms to achieve her creative visions. She participates in Art and Music class on top of her core classes.

Hogwarts: OWL Years
Cordelia's beloved cat dies from a hawk attack during the summer before her third year, leaving her completely heartbroken. After a few days to mourn her loss, and convinces herself that if he was going to die, it was better that he did so while she was not in the middle of a hectic school year. Her parents, taking mercy on her sensitive heart, help her bury the creature near their home.

She returns to school for her third year in 1873 with a completely able-bodied owl named Zeus. For electives, she adds Earth Magic and Care of Magical Creatures, not caring enough for the others to add a third. After a section on ancient healing magic in the class, she decides that pursuing a career in healing would not be such a bad thought — especially if she is unable to secure a husband! This is also the year Dezzie joins her at Hogwarts, finding a home in Gryffindor instead of Ravenclaw.

Fourth year comes in 1874, and she's gone from a minor interest in healing to a fully-fledged passion for it. Her hope now is to not only find a husband, but to find one who will also allow her to pursue her ambitions without fuss. She finds counsel in one of her professors and quickly constructs a plan to achieve her goals.

She takes her OWL examinations in the spring of 1876, and the summer brings news that she's achieved high enough scores to pursue the classes she needs at a NEWT level. On top of that, she continues with Care of Magical Creatures, her love of animals never dying (and luckily, neither has her pet owl!).

Hogwarts: NEWT Years
Except he does, or at least she thinks he does, after he fails to return from one of his routine journeys to send a letter to her parents after beginning her sixth year in the fall of 1876. Her parents offer to purchase her another pet on the upcoming winter break, but she refuses, believing that pet too will perish too soon!

Isabella finds herself married as the calendar year comes to an end! While Cordelia, along with the rest of the Collins household, are delighted for her, Isabella seems far less excited. Not wanting to pry, Cordelia only expresses that she's always available to speak to — whether in person or by letter— if she's needed.

Seventh year comes without much ado, and before she knows it she's taking her NEWT examinations in the spring of 1878. Rather than immediately ask to pursue a career at the hospital., she honors her parents' wishes and debuts at the Hogwarts Coming Out Ball at the end of May.

Debut & St. Mungo's
Her first season is very much a success — she even receives two offers of courtship! — but she is unwilling to sacrifice her independence for a man who she's not positive will bring her the happiness. One of them, she noted, offered nothing more than a scoff at the notion of a woman of her status working, while the other seemed to measure up to even her level of ambition.

As her first season comes to an end, she regretfully informs her parents that she cannot imagine making a gentleman happy as a wife until she makes herself happy, and they allow her to begin her St. Mungo's internship beginning in the fall of 1878.

She initially struggles to decide which department is tailored to her skills, but she immediately rules out Potion & Plant Poisoning, Spell Damage, and Artifact Incidents. With Spell Damage and Magical Bugs to choose from, she spends a few days in each department to figure out which group of healers she meshes the best with — and in the end, it's the Magical Bugs ward that gains another intern.

It is there that, through one of her male colleagues, that she is introduced to Mr. Dennis Porter, a healer in Artifact Incidents in the spring of 1879. Their first meeting, while not prompting feelings of "love at first sight", is memorable for one reason: he seems to recognize her name immediately upon meeting, though she was positive they'd never met before!

Their acquaintanceship does not progress beyond anything other than pleasant conversations in the hospital corridors, and she surely doesn't consider him as a potential suitor! It is only when he first suggests courtship in 1881 that she even considers the possibility of a future with him, but she rejects his first offer. Then his second offer. And then his third offer. Eventually, his offers find their way into casual conversation (in a joking manner!) which is when she begins to find his efforts charming rather than annoying.

She accepts his offer — finally! — in 1882, though much of their time spent together is restricted to the walls of the hospital due to their schedules. Unlike many courtships, which involve a heavy "getting to know you" period, Cordelia and Mr. Porter are already well-acquainted, and instead use their courtship period to speak about their hopes, their dreams, and their plans — but seldom their pasts, much to Cordelia's dismay.

She resigns to the fact that her courtship may never be the type that is glamorized in society, but at least it's still a courtship! Approaching her twenty-third birthday, she knows her options are growing ever more limited (a thought that, when considered, makes her feel guilty for even having thought up!) and that it's not Mr. Porter's fault that their busy schedules allow them little time together!

After his first proposal in February of 1883, she rejects him, more or less to see if he'll put in a greater effort to secure her as his wife. He does! He introduces her to his sister — a lovely woman, she decides — and takes the time to rearrange his schedule so they can spend the day together when she's off of work. When he proposes for the second time in late April of 1883, she accepts.

After pondering on the best way to tell her family about her engagement, she accidentally lets it slip at the dinner table in early May of 1883. Her father isn't pleased, though she assumes it's due to both Mr. Porter's young age and the fact that his permission had never been secured. He doesn't say no, though, which is good enough for the moment. After being asked by her mother to talk to Mr. Porter about wedding plans, Cordelia goes to work with a list of questions to ask.

Except, much to her dismay, he does not answer them! He seems to lack interest in wedding planner — or from Cordelia's perspective, lack interest in marrying her sooner rather than later! She does manage to get a few questions answered, but the important parts (dates, guest lists, etc.) have completely escaped conversation.

After sixth months of uncertainty, Mr. Porter finally sets a date: April of 1884.

Mrs. Porter
Becomes Mrs. Porter, she realizes, doesn't really change much immediately. Her job is still her job, her husband's job is still his job, and they fall back into routine without much ado. It's underwhelming (wasn't marriage supposed to be more romantic?) in a away, but she convinces herself storybooks have set her expectations far too high.

Dezzie married Arthur Pettigrew in 1885, and while she doesn't voice her concerns, she hoped Dezzie had considered her choices carefully. (Her new brother-in-law doesn't have the best track record.)

Cordelia delivers her first child on September 24, 1886 after a lengthy period without them, but it pays off to see her newborn son's face! He's christened Desmond Leontes, a name to honor both Dezzie and Florizel. Her second child comes a little under a year and a half later on February 06, 1888 in the former of her daughter, Isadora Cressida, who is undoubtedly named after her two other sisters. Following the birth of her second child, she begins to notice something about Mr. Porter is a little... off.
❧ She and her husband had a particularly lengthy engagement for reasons unbeknownst to the public.

❧ Her two younger sisters are working women, with both in less appropriate positions than herself.

❧ She works alongside her husband at St. Mungo's, though in separate departments.
❧ Among her sisters is Desdemona Pettigrew, the wife of recovering(?) human disaster Arthur Pettigrew.

❧ Her youngest sister works as an Unspeakable.
❧ Her husband was formerly involved with her elder sister (because even she doesn't know that).

Plot Preferences:
❧ I value communication over anything else, as a lack of communication breeds (unwanted) tension! As such, if you wish for a certain outcome you can't reach without me or my character cooperating, please let me know! I can generally find ways for my characters to reach certain points while keeping true to their personalities.

❧ I prefer faster-paced threads, as some of my character's plot-lines move quickly enough to where the outcome may make no difference if it takes too long. I tend to respond quickly; if you feel I'm taking too long, don't hesitate to nudge me!

❧ I generally prefer organic development to pre-plotting, except, of course, in the case of plottable adoptables and other plots that have a needed outcome.

❧ My post length varies based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: length of post I'm given to work with, muse for the character, and plot-importance.

❧ Concerning mature threads, I'm perfectly alright with swearing and violence, though will write smut only if it's required to further character or plot development.

❧ I'm perfectly fine with basic god-modding actions (i.e. your character leading mine somewhere, touches, etc.), but prefer control in most other situations. If you have a question, just ask! I won't bite ;)

❧ Unless important for plot development, I generally prefer not to be in basic meet-and-greet threads. If conversation between characters turn idle, I'm prone to creating sinkholes. Seriously.
