Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Family:
Mayfield Fairchild, Father [1840] — a missionary often abroad at the behest of the church.
Henrietta Fairchild née Bulstrode, Mother [1852-1875]
Adeline Fairchild, Sister [1868]dead, as far as Blythe’s concerned.

Temperance Fairchild, Aunt [1845] — a force of nature for their faith.
Davinder Patil, Child Living in Their House [1876]
Isis, Siamese Cat [1883]
Appearance
As unremarkable in size and shape as she is in attitude, Blythe stands at a modest four feet and eleven inches of slight, almost bony frame. Her natural blonde locks have been died a deep brown by her aunt since before she began her time at Hogwarts; it’s never occurred to her to tell anyone that it’s not her natural colour. As her aunt insists on having her wear modest cuts and the colours of half-mourning regardless of the fact that no one has died recently, she favors her school robes much of the time. At least they are supposed to be black. Her lone adornment is the small silver cross of the Church—a wand replacing the long arm of the cross—worn on a thin chain around her wrist. She is left-handed, but has been well-trained to use only her right. As a result, her wandwork is lacking.

History
1871 | Blythe is the second and ultimately final child born to Mayfield and Henrietta Fairchild. She joins existing sister Adeline in their Godric’s Hollow home.

1875 | Her mother dies of sickness. Blythe’s first act of magic sees her console herself by briefly bringing one of her dolls to life. Adeline takes quite jealous, as she has yet to perform magic herself.

1877 | Mayfield goes to India on Mission, leaving his daughters to the care of his devoutly religious sister. Blythe sees her father only three times in the decade to follow.

1879 | Summer comes, but Adeline’s Hogwarts letter does not. Temperance forces the girls deep in to prayer, as she believes squibs to be a punishment for a family’s sins. Mayfield returns home briefly in the autumn, but says little. Aunt Temperance also begins dying Blythe’s hair in an effort to distance her from her “wayward” sister.

1883 | Blythe bids a tearful farewell to her sister and departs for Hogwarts, where she is sorted into Hufflepuff. Her years in her aunt’s care have left her a shy girl, and she struggles to make friends.

1884 | Mayfield returns home in June and departs with Adeline. When he returns three days later, it is without Blythe’s sister, and she is chastised whenever she questions the matter. She assumes that he has killed her. This does not do wonders for her self-confidence. Her father leaves just before Blythe returns to Hogwarts, though not before moving the family to Irvingly.

1885 | Now a third year, Blythe adds Divination and Ancient Runes to her course roster.

1886 | Blythe begins her fourth year. In December, she spends her first Christmas with her father in ten years. He leaves behind a young Indian boy, called Davinder, a muggleborn orphan he felt guided to look after.

1888 | Her OWL scores prove to be the height of mediocrity and her aunt, in spite of Blythe's best efforts at persuasion, does not allow her to return to school in September. With great reluctance, she finds work as a secretary at the Hogsmeade Constabulary. Her goal next is to work on obtaining an apparition license to make getting to and from this job a simpler task.

1893 | At the Magical Port of London with her aunt to welcome a returning group of missioneries, Blythe is caught up in the events of September 14th, during which her aunt goes missing and is, by everyone but Blythe, presumed dead.

THE CHURCH OF MAGICAL JESUS

Established around about the time that the Church of England split from Rome, the Church of Magical Jesus is magical society’s clearest, most favourable bridge to God. It looks to the New Testament as the story of Jesus, the first wizard, and God as the divine source of all magic and magical creatures. The ability to use magic is God’s blessing upon an individual and their family, and the loss of that ability a sign that one’s family has fallen from holy favour.

Their symbol is that of the Christian cross, where the long arm has been replaced by a wand to signify the gift of magic to wizardkind.

Most notably, their beliefs state that:
❧ Magic makes wizards closer to God’s image than muggles.
❧ If a wizard is made non-human, it is because they have sinned deeply. If a wizard is made a squib, it is because their family has sinned deeply.
❧ Muggles are to be guided and protected as the lesser of God’s children, but never to be considered equals.
❧ Muggleborns were chosen by God himself, and so are likely to have bright futures if they don’t squander all their potential.
❧ Ghosts are the spirits of sinners too cowardly to go to Hell.
❧ For best results, church is to be attended daily.
