Beware the Frozen Heart |
1866 | Born the first child of her parents, Eira is a quiet and calm babe. Her eyes are watching and she is quick to attention when given affection. |
1868 — 1870 | Three brothers are born. By the time the third arrives, Eira is thick as thieves with the eldest. The two are inseparable despite the gender gap, only three years apart in age. |
1873 | When out in London, the children were being a troublesome handful for their governess. Not intentionally, of course. Only, there were four of them and one of her on a busy day. When one could ask what could go wrong, why not ask what couldn't go wrong? The governess was busy, managing a young Milo. Xander was who knows where. It was between Archibald and Eira to mind themselves for the briefest of moments. It should have been fine. Should they have been behaving, it would have been.
Yet they weren't. She knew she wasn't supposed to be trying to perform magic. Accidental signs were forgiven, even praised as exciting tidings for signs ahead of Hogwarts and wonder. Yet she was a Big Girl now and she wanted to show off a trick that she had read about in a book that sounded so fantastical. Archie had been so excited. Yet it had gone so wrong. It should have been a small snow blizzard. It should have been wonderful. But after waving her hands around, scrunching her nose, and thinking so hard, a bright light sparked from her hands and shot at Archie before her brother froze before her very eyes and died before her eyes. She was found screaming before her brother's cold body. |
1873 — 1877 | More siblings are born. Eira isolates herself almost entirely. Trauma, guilt, and self-loathing fill her days endlessly. Duty is the only means of reasoning to get her to leave her room and socialize, though opening up to others is a task. |
Conceal, Don't Feel |
1877 — 1878 | Unlike plenty of other children, Eira has to be talked into going to Hogwarts. At least some skills will make her safer to be around. She is sorted into Ravenclaw. Her lessons stress her out for the first few months, but she silently slips into a routine. |
1879 — 1880 | For her elective, she decided to stick with ancient studies. |
1881 — 1882 | Taking her OWLs and getting satisfactory scores, her parents aren't all that thrilled to hear that she still doesn't wish to stay at Hogwarts. Her social anxieties and self-loathing have not lifted in all of these years, so many wounds left unhealed. Still, it's less socially inappropriate to take her out now, so they relent and take her out for finishing school and set out to find a good match for her, as any season would likely do her disposition no good. |
1885 | A few years of finishing and Eira is wed to her husband. |
Let it Go |
1888 | After several miscarriages, Eira finally gives birth to a healthy baby girl. She convinces her husband to let her name the small child. After a figure from Ancient Greece that Eira had read about, Hypatia. This small, beautiful child. Eira brought this delicate, bright light into this world. This little girl brings a sense of hope into her heart that she has had a hard time feeling for a long time in her life. |
1889 | Her child's birth isn't some magical cure for her troubles. But it is the start of a healing journey. Eira starts making more friends, writes to her siblings more, even throws a couple of parties by the years end without fleeing and letting her female in-laws handle the bulk of it. |
Into the Unknown |
1890 | Her husband's death is a shock to the system. Yet rather than retreat into herself, she mourns with her family. Etiquette is observed, yet she makes an effort to not hide in her room for most of her days unless absolutely necessary. She moves back in with her parents and siblings, which helps keep her held accountable towards keeping up socialization (again, while respecting mourning). |
1892 | Out of mourning, Eira wants to know who she is. What life really means to her. What her parents want, is for her to find a new husband so that she may move on with her life. Is that what she was meant for? |
