As the fifth and final child, Edwin has the experience of being both the baby of the family and an afterthought third son.  He is quite a bit younger than his brothers so they are off and graduated by the time he gets to Hogwarts.  Out of all the siblings, he is most likely to call Philip “Flip”.  Having been two at the time of the table flipping incident, it was much easier to say than Philip and it stuck.  He is marginally closer with Miranda by virtue of the fact that she never went to school and was still around come September each year.  However, despite their differences, it's his other sister Seraphina that he is actually close with.  Or as close as siblings who are not encouraged to socialize together can be.

In 1874 Edwin finally gets to go to Hogwarts himself.  Though not quite a Hat Stall, it does take the sorting hat a good while to finally settle on Ravenclaw for him. He does well in school, socially and academically, and when he graduates in 1881 with his suite of NEWTs his sights are set on becoming a healer.  Until suddenly they are not.  With what feels like more attention than Edwin was given for most of his childhood, his father looks him directly in the eyes as he casts the Imperius curse on him. 

He begins work at the Ministry immediately.  Any of the anxieties and qualms he might have had about life after school are gone.  Things are easy.  Life is serene.  He floats through the next few years in a daze without a single care or concern.  Somewhere in the fog he moves to his own home, is made Head of the Goblin Liaison Office, and begins to take steps towards securing a wife.

(1893) The curse slips from him slowly at first.  Like waking up from a too-long nap, parts of his mind begin to stir and stretch until it all crashes in on him.  After a decade of numbness, simple consciousness feels stark and raw.  All of the suddenly unclouded memories and unfettered emotions bear down on him until he collapses into a nearby chair, which is where he’s found by the butler who brings news that his father has taken ill.
