Appearance
General | Penelope stands at a quarter inch taller than her twin, at four feet seven and a quarter inches. She loves to have her hair styled, but will often fuss with it and leave the original style ruined within a couple of hours.

Expressions | Most times, Pen looks as though she has something else on her mind. Never genuinely meeting anyone in the eye, this is something she is often chastised on. Her smile, however, is contagious. She loves to make people laugh and is more than happy to take the lead.

Deportment | Her balance isn't the best and she has a habit of slouching more than her governess would approve of. This is especially true when she is concentrating on anything of serious interest to her.

Fashion | Anything that doesn't have at least a little bit of yellow is a struggle to get her to wear. Though if she's particularly distracted on a give day, her governess and mother may be able to get away with doing without. But once she realizes, she'll have a vastly negative reaction to the change in her routine.

Accessories | As for yellow, an accessory will often fit with what Pen deems as 'enough yellow'. There are days when more yellow is a must, but not unless she's feeling particularly stressed. She loves ribbons and will often gently tug on them when they are on her dress or in her hair.

Scent | Penelope doesn't like a lot of scents and often tries to avoid playing with anything that smells too strong. This includes her mother's and half-sister's perfumes.

History
Childhood
1882Penelope is born as the younger twin of Parthenope, on a warm late summer night. Even from the beginning, the twins are hard to separate from one another for long. Often crying hysterically when anyone tries.
1885A younger brother is born. Penelope and Parthenope start developing their own language that they keep to themselves, for the most part. Pen wakes up screaming and hysterically exclaiming that a kitty is dead. To quell her fears, a maid is sent to search the house for a dead cat. None is found. The incident is forgotten by the time that one of the kitchen cats is found dead a month later, whom had been running around chasing mice the day before.
1886Penelope has several dreams that all have various negative outcomes. At first, she's not sure why. After a while, she begins to notice that there is absolutely no yellow to be found in any of these dreams. A few weeks in, she wears a full yellow dress and the dreams do not come that night. She finds that any time she wears yellow, her dreams calm. She starts decidedly insisting on having something yellow on with every outfit. The dreams have calmed ever since.
1887Once again a brother is born. Parthenope gets in trouble with the governess when she begins talking in the twins' made-up language absentmindedly during a lesson. She tries to not do it again, but it soon becomes a habit when she's deeply in thought and not paying much mind to who she's speaking with. To be fair, shouldn't this be obvious to understand? As simple as English?

While out at the park with Parthenope and their governess, Pen sees a dog and can't help but cry. Her governess can't get her to say why. Pen isn't entirely sure why and can't bring herself to even say that. They return home and never learn that the dog died a few hours later.
1888On a day where her governess is not having it with Pen's peculiar nature, she tries to make Pen wear something without a hint of yellow on it. No yellow accessories either. After a long struggle, Pen makes the dress, the governess's dress, and the whole room yellow with one stubborn and long scream. She is punished for her actions, but the war of 'no yellow' is basically over.
1890Parthenope finally shows her own first sign of magic. Significantly less startling than Pen's.
Hogwarts
September 1, 1893Penelope and Parthenope get separated in the house sorting. Shit goes down.

For starters. Pen has a meltdown in front of the whole school due to multiple factors. Sensory overload, massive change, and — most notably — distress.

Regarding distress, there are multiple reasons. The most obvious being separation from her twin. The less obvious? The fact that multiple factors in the night point towards the dreams she had suffered from for years. Including one particular reoccurring dream that she then reveals to her father and twin for the first time. In which Parthenope is dead among the non-yellow landscape. While Parthenope is indeed placed in the house of Hufflepuff and thus is indeed adorned in yellow the house separation and Penelope's distinct lack of yellow is where she grows concern. The separation seeming all the more dangerous.

When finally revealing all of this, her father comes to the conclusion that these feelings and dreams may indeed be visions, which is certainly not a comforting revelation.

Finally entering the Ravenclaw common room, without sisters or father in sight, she is offered friendship with Autumn Fairfax — and polite kindness from Tony Lawrence — which goes nicely at first. Yet when Jessamine Parkinson begins semi-loudly gossiping negatively about Penelope, Autumn decides to stand up to the older student, gets threatened, and starts a fight as a result. The Head of House is the primary source to intervene and the house looses 40 points. Despite the massive drama of it all, Pen sees Autumn's actions as brave and kind. This leaves them as rather close and Pen proceeds to follow Autumn around the castle whenever she can after the incident.
October 31, 1893Pen almost gets crushed by the body of Professor Thomas Pembroke, the man falling to his death in a tragic accident. His position, the lack of yellow present on the scene, it all ties into the images that had been haunting Penelope for years. She is certain that this is the dreaded outcome to her visions. Or at least the ones related to this particular incident.
November 1, 1893With each incident of Hogwarts, it is decided in Pen's best interest that she be homeschooled. At this point, she isn't arguing. Still, it means being separate from her twin for the longest time in their lives, big time. Only time will tell if this was the right move.
Personality
In Public | For a lot of people, Penelope has two sides in public. Incredibly talkative and extremely shy. When she's talkative, she'll talk about anything and everything that she is interested in. To an annoying level. Until someone tells her that she's annoying them, she will not even realize that she needs to stop. On the other hand, she will outright avoid anything outside of short answers and mumbling when she's not feeling up for interacting with others. She'd rather be at home and/or with her twin exclusively. Often when pushed at this point, she will be snippy and has, rarely, began screaming when in an extreme level of being overwhelmed.

When visiting others' households, she will still be the picky eater that she often times is, getting herself into trouble as a result. She doesn't mean to be rude, but a lot of times the foods she refuses make her feel sick or she has a hard time swallowing.

Of course, her personality can be much more complex as someone gets to know her. However, some will often avoid her if they find these parts of her personality to be too much. Especially when she starts saying something that someone finds a bit uncanny, something she shouldn't know.

In the Home | Pen feels a lot freer at home. She explores the house often, having gotten her way into the servants quarters a handful of times. When not wandering the house and playing with her twin and younger brothers, Pen is often reading about topics that genuinely interest her. While the kitchens are too loud for her, she has snuck down there to try attempting to make food on her own. With limited, messy success. She likes writing short stories in booklets that were originally meant to be diaries.
