Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Appearance
General | Slightly taller than his elder brother at 5'11", Noble has an average-veering-muscular build and a friendly face. His features are handsome. Noble has brown hair and eyes, and keeps a slight beard so that he looks older. Noble is right-handed. He looks a great deal like his brother Ford.

Expressions | In short: cheerful and casual. As long as he's in a good mood, Noble is easy to read — he's prone to casual smiles and grins, and is quick to laugh. Surprise, too, is easy to read — raised eyebrows. It's harder to tell if Noble is upset; his expressions will, if anything, become more muted, and he's good at affecting being casual and collected even if he isn't. He's an angry person, underneath but you would never guess it unless you knew him really well.

Deportment | Noble has a casual posture that is entirely affected; he carefully resides in the border between 'professional' and 'chill.' He's looser around his friends and family, and his posture becomes rigid if he's particularly angry or uncomfortable. Noble talks with his hands. There's a tension in his shoulders almost perpetually, though, even if he's not aware of it.

Fashion | A rotation of muggle suits from before his father died. Noble is usually dressed professionally, with his clothes straight and neat. But if you're going to catch him looking rumpled or casual, it'll probably be in his workshop.

Accessories | A pocketwatch his father gifted him when he turned seventeen. He doesn't want to talk about it, but the pocketwatch is kept in good repair.

Scent | Sometimes he smells like the most recent potion he brewed, but usually he smells like a clean aftershave.

History
1868: Noble is born, the second son (and second boy) of the Greengrass family. He's a relatively easygoing baby.
1871-1874: Verity (1871) Grace (1872) and Clementine (1874) join Fortitude and Noble to round out the family. While they're close overall, Noble finds himself craving independence, and occasionally tries to set himself apart from the lot of them even in childhood, and can occasionally be a bit show-offy. Shortly before Clementine's birth, he demonstrates signs of magic by causing a broom to hover in the kitchen, much to the displeasure of the maids.
1877: Ford goes to Hogwarts. Noble misses his brother - he's also rather jealous - especially because he is now the only boy at home and, at nine, that's starting to be a thing that matters to him.
1879-1880: Noble goes to Hogwarts, and is easily sorted into Gryffindor by the sorting hat. He joins the flying club but is only a dabbler in sports - he likes athleticism but not enough to want to try to join the house team - and has a relatively easy time in his classes. Noble has a particular passion for potions and herbology even from first year, and meets a group of friends in his Hogwarts house.
1881-1882: Noble chooses Ancient Studies and Care of Magical Creatures as his electives. This is not even in the top 10 of most notable things to happen that year, because in October he meets THE GIRL, Miss Daffodil Potts. Daffodil is two years below him and a Ravenclaw, and Noble meets her through the friend of a friend. Her and Noble become friendly, and when she ask him for help with a Potions project in the spring, he's happy to acquiesce. Then they become actual friends, and Noble cannot help but notice how pretty she is, although he keeps this to himself.
1882-1883: Verity comes to Hogwarts and is a Slytherin in 1882; in fall of 1883 Grace comes to Hogwarts and joins Noble in Gryffindor. Noble finds himself uncomfortable with the idea of any of his siblings knowing about his friendship with Daffy, and tries to avoid her when his sisters are around.
1884: Noble sits his OWLs as Ford finishes his schooling entirely. That summer, he is able to join a potioneer as his 'apprentice,' which essentially means 'workshop bitch' at this age. Noble is immediately in love with the work. That summer, he admits to himself (not out loud!) that he is in love with THE GIRL as well.
1884-1885: Noble takes Potions, Herbology, DADA, Transfiguration, and COMC as his NEWTs; the goal, he has decided, is to be an independent potioneer. He comes back as an apprentice this summer as well.
1885-1886: Clementine joins her siblings at Hogwarts, where she is sorted into Hufflepuff. Noble takes his seventh year very seriously (he is minimally fun because of this) and is confident about his NEWT results as soon as he finishes the exams. After his NEWTs and her OWLs, he cannot refrain from telling Daffodil how he feels - much to his surprise (and glee) she feels the same way.
Obviously there's nothing he can do about it right now, but they kiss and Noble vows to her that he'll establish an independent household early, so that he can marry her properly. She agrees that they should try - as long as he can manage it before she becomes a spinster - and the pair begin to exchange extensive letters.
He resumes life as an apprentice with the potioneer, beginning his own research and work.
1888: Daffodil finishes her NEWTs and debuts, but promises she will refrain from courting to wait for him. Noble starts his own practice as a potioneer towards the end of the year - the potioneer he had been working with is retiring - and wins a minor contract selling healing potions to Hogsmeade Hospital.
1889: Verity debuts. Taking his life plan seriously, and seeking a little bit of space from a house where his sister is in the parlor all the time, Noble begins to rent a house in North Bartonburg with a workshop in the yard. If he can support it for a year, with staff, and maintains his contracts - then feasibly he will be able to ask to court Daffodil by the end of 1891.
Of course, there's a saying about the best laid plans - father dies towards the end of the year in an accident, and the Greengrass family is sent into mourning.
1890: And then things get worse! Ford tells Noble news he never saw coming - there is essentially no money left, and the family will have to move in with him in Bartonburg and sell of assets. Noble is understandably freaked, but agrees to keep things secret for 1) appearances and 2) to keep the girls from losing their minds.
Historically good-natured, Noble finds himself increasingly miserable almost immediately. They're all in mourning, they're all always around, and he's not sure that Ford will be able to handle the responsibility of finding their husbands - but Noble doesn't want to do it, either. It's a combination of things - his father's death, the unconvering that they are financially fucked, the lack of personal space, and the death of his dreams of independence. But Noble is pretty Unhappy.
Things are becoming strained with Daffy, too, if only in Noble's head - he has realized that their plan may be impossible.
