Did You Know?
Queen Victoria was known for putting jackets and dresses on her pups, causing clothing for dogs to become so popular that fashion houses for just dog clothes started popping up all over Paris. — Fox
It would be easy to assume that Evangeline came to the Lady Morgana only to pick fights. That wasn't true at all. They also had very good biscuits.

M/UCAB | REP 4+ | AUCTION

What: Magical Miscellany Auction
Who: An importer is hosting; open to anyone of moderate repute who has money to buy things.
Cost: Not for entry, but to buy things, obviously yes. Some items may go for MC-reasonable prices but all will be too expensive for WC folks, and if you seem like you obviously can't afford to buy anything you'll probably get the stink-eye
Where: Hogsmeade Hall
Why: because I want one
When: January 15 & 16

For two days Hogsmeade Hall will play host to all manner of obscure magical artifacts. On Saturday from 9AM to noon, wares will be on display for a silent auction, while a live auction will take place from noon to 2PM. Sunday's auction will primarily consist of whatever wasn't sold on Saturday, but also includes a few ~big ticket items that were not available the day before to lure people back. Sunday's live auction runs from noon to 2PM. During the live auction there are breaks every 30 minutes or so for people to walk around and peruse their catalogs and converse.

Items up for auction (also feel free to make up your own, these are just ideas):
- a grandfather clock whose labels read things like "soon" "imminently" "in the distant future" etc instead of numbers, and which has five hands which are customizable based on what you put in the clock (for example, buy a wedding ring and place it in a compartment to get predictions on when you'll marry; use graveyard dirt for your demise; etc)
- opera glasses which reveal auras around people based on their current emotional state
- gloves which emit a soft glow of light, ideal for reading or doing craftwork in the evening
- minor invisibility cloaks (last about 48 hours of use before spells fade)
- fabric that changes color on demand
- lullaby book- a book of stories and songs which, when read aloud, put any listener to sleep within 5 minutes
- necklace of charisma - makes you slightly more persuasive while you wear it, effects fade after some amount of use

M/UCAB | INVITE ONLY | CASINO NIGHT

What: Casino Night
Who: Emrys hosting for an intimate group (around 30). Invitees are the sorts of people with a taste for luxury and indulgence but also whom Emrys knows to be discreet, and old enough that Emrys doesn't consider them teenagers.

Specifically: Desiderius Morgan, Camilla Prewett (plus Fitzroy Prewett he guesses), Arthur Pettigrew (whose invitation does not mention his wife but does say he can bring friends if desired), Trystan Selwyn, Ambrosia Selwyn, Porphyria Dempsey + her rakish brother, Langston Dashwood

(If you want to come and I didn't tag you please ask me first so we can establish how Emrys knows your character!)
Cost: No, but gambling is expected.
Where: Emrys' home in Bristol
Why: This is actually just a very elaborate way to flirt with Art Pettigrew.
When: Jan 21st

Various rooms on the first floor of Emrys' house have been dedicated to card games and other tabletop gambling activities. Hors d'oeuvres are laid out in the dining room alongside a staffed bar for mixed drinks.

Any of the players may gamble with money or with "favors" — tokens they can receive free of charge from a staff member at the table by the floo. The favor tokens magically record who they originally belonged to and who has won them, but there's no magical compulsion element to them at all; it's basically the same level of pressure as getting a dare in truth or dare. :P Emrys is branding them as more exciting and adventurous than just playing for money (since most of the guests have plenty of it) and will be making fun of anyone who seems hesitant to play with favors as the night goes on. The real, unadvertised reason for the favors is that he doesn't want anyone's night ending when they run out of money, so these are an encouragement to keep playing.

The idea with the favor tokens is that you would cash them in with the initial owner, either during the party or later for a favor of your choice.

UCAB | REP 5+ | BALL

What: A Winter's Night Ball
Who: NPC host for society types
Cost: No
Where: Private residence in Wellingtonshire
Why: I've now referenced this made up event in two threads so figured maybe I should share the love in case other people are looking for society excuses to have threads
When: 20 January

The theme of this ball is "winter" so ladies are encouraged to dress in white/ice blue/etc shades and put snowflakes in their hair and things. The decorations include illusory snowflakes drifting down from the ceiling. The hostess didn't account for the weather that well so the ballroom also gets gusts of cold wind when new people arrive which makes the decorations look a little stormier than they were intended to be.
