Aldous,

November paid me a visit today to ask about the Witch Weekly article. I'd send you a copy if I had one at hand, but I don't. I'm assuming you haven't read it, but it makes some insinuations about my marriage, Melody's health, and gets into more detail than I would have liked about my "rakish" history.

I think my response to her questions quite distressed her. It might be a good thing if you could find a reason to pay a call on her sometime soon.

Sorry you're always cleaning up my messes.

Ben

Reuben,

Oh good, more Witch Wee You are again in that infernal publication?! That must be to what my secretary was alluding when she asked after you yesterday; at this rate, I shall be forced to subscribe myself to stay abreast of the gossip!

It pains me to learn that you have caused our dear sister any distress. It is imperative that you remember that November is more fragile than either of us, and certainly more so than your harpy wife and must be handled accordingly. You must go to her directly and restore some measure of equilibrium for her; report back on how she fares, and I shall, of course, follow.

Delivered by owl on March 17th

Brawling in the damned streets?! I thought I had seen the depths of your foolishness—apparently, there is an entire abyss of poor judgment left to discover! "How" and "why" seem utterly inadequate! What the hell, Reuben?!

Aldous,

Sorry if you're upset, but I don't regret it. I'll try to be more discreet next time.

If you want to yell at me, I'll come over. You can't send howlers here. Melody has had a really trying week and she needs some quiet.

Reuben,

I fail to see how my yelling in person would be any less trying than sending a howler.

There is, quite plainly, no excuse worth sprawling in the mud like a common hog. You are a gentleman, for fuck pity's sake! Have you no dignity?!

March 18th, midday or later
Aldous,

For the record, I said I'd come over, not that you could come here. Melody needs space. She's recovering.

I do have dignity, which is the only reason I didn't settle this yesterday. I'm going to challenge Macmillan to a duel unless he wises up and flees the country first.

Reuben,

Come over as soon as you read this, regardless of the hour.

Aldous,

It's done. I won. Healer said he'd live but he's definitely worse for wear. He won't be saying anything about our family anymore. He got my shoulder right at the end, but nothing I won't recover from.
