    Mortimer Skeeter
    #1
    In Character
    Full Name: Mortimer Julius Skeeter

    Nicknames: Called Morty by most.

    Birthdate: 17th July 1864

    Current Age: 18 Years

Occupation: Employee of the Department of Magical Games and Sports

    Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff

Wand: Pear, 12", phoenix feather, swishy

    Blood Status: Halfblood

    Social Class: Middle

    Family:
    • Maxwell Skeeter û Father û 1829

      Martha Skeeter û Mother û 1835

      Archibald Skeeter û Brother û 1856

      Barnabas Skeeter û Brother û 1859

      Antonius Skeeter û Brother û 1863

      Thompson Skeeter û Brother û 1867

      Tamsin Skeeter û Sister û 1868

    Appearance:

    • Morty is tall û especially tall when next to poor old Barney û standing at 6'1". He's always been of a sturdy build, if not outright brawny, and athletic enough that a Quidditch career would have been no trouble. However, he spends his days indoors and more smartly-dressed than he'd envisioned, taking time enough to conjure up the image of a perfect young gentleman. Though naturally left-handed, this was beaten out of him at an early age and so now nearly always uses his right. He has thick dark blond hair and clear grey-blue eyes. Having inherited his fair share û or more than, perhaps û of good looks, his outward charm only serves to lend to this impression, with an infectious sweet smile that only gets goofy and rabbit-like when a bit too eager. Mortimer's is the sort of face destined for laughter-lines, and he supposes, if nothing else good came of not playing Quidditch as a career, at least his face isn't in danger of ever being ruined by a Bludger.

    History:
    • Born into a middle-class family with a bunch of brothers to entertain him, Mortimer - named after their grandfather, Mortimer Bagshot, though the child is quickly and affectionately identified as Morty - has a lively, if conventional, childhood. He grows up especially close to Antonius, as they are so close in age, but enjoys the company of all his brothers (and eventually sister), mostly staying out of any disagreements that arise. He tends to obey his parents - particularly their father - but doesn't gain the position of favourite (Barney and Tamsin get most of Maxwell's approval), nor least favourite, however. Either way, Morty is generally a bubbly, happy boy, and makes an effort to enjoy everything while staying out of too much trouble.

When September 1st of 1875 arrives at last, Morty - and Tony - are finally able to follow Archie and Barney to Hogwarts. But Morty evidently doesn't have Tony's guts, Archie's sense of adventure or his and Barney's ambition, for he is sorted into neither Gryffindor or Slytherin, but Hufflepuff like his parents. He isn't disappointed or anything, because he fits in well and gets along with his housemates, as well as most of the school. As he goes through his school career, it becomes evident that however hard he tries, his results won't ever be exceptional, his OWLs acceptable yet mediocre. On the other hand, he's proven quite popular and generally well-liked, even by the professors in whose classes he struggles, though in an awkward phase of his adolescent years he found himself miserable at conversing with anyone of the fairer sex. Still, Mortimer has always been able to turn his attentions to Quidditch since plucking up the courage to try out in his third year. He's quickly drafted on as Chaser, and enjoys the sport greatly. By the time OWL season arrives, however, Morty's been considering it as more than just a hobby, and fantasises far too much about dropping out and getting selected for a professional league team. Any would do. But it's just as he's getting serious about these ambitions that his parents remind him of the pitfalls of such a plan.

The fourth son of the family, it's obvious he'll have to get a reasonable-paying job if he wants to work towards the conventional, comfortable lifestyle that's expected of him, and the notion of practicality is one in which his father's wishes sway Morty. But it is more the thought of continual disapproval from his family, the sort Archie puts up with, that really sway him. Enough that he stays on reluctantly for NEWTs, knuckling down to work. Enough that by graduation, he's bid his dreams of playing Quidditch goodbye and settled for the best alternative he could find before he starts getting mopey. A Ministry career ought to satisfy his father, and getting to work in organising the Quidditch league and such is enough to keep him upbeat on a day-to-day basis, which is likely enough for his mother. And as long as Morty has other things in his life to occupy him - most importantly friends, and these days, with the added bonus of pretty women - he's happy, too.

    Personality:
    • An optimist and idealist, Morty generally puts on a happy face, sees the best in things and looks on the bright side. He has a generally well-rounded, charming demeanour; easy-going, somewhat flirtatious and always up for a laugh, he enjoys being on people's good sides and has a habit of wanting to please others. This can occasionally be unfortunate, and lead him to be pressured into doing or not doing something, and he outwardly conforms to people's opinions more than he likes despite his internal set of beliefs. Morty's greatest problem is that he has trouble following through even when he's promised things, and, often too cautious for his own good, chickens out and changes his mind frequently. He is terrible at confrontation, dislikes conflict, and can barely figure out what he wants in life. But as long as he can find the fun in it, he'll go with the flow. He's only eighteen after all, there's plenty to look forward to.
